An object of the present invention is to provide an optical recording/reproducing apparatus capable of improving medium usability through a laser power adjusting process while keeping compatibility with a read only type medium. The optical recording/reproducing apparatus adjusts laser power using a PCA till the PCA is used up. After the PCA is used up, an additional area is reserved at the outermost circumference position, thereafter when the additional area is used up, a new additional area is reserved at an inner circumference side of the used up additional area to adjust laser power. The additional area is reserved at an outer circumference than a lead-out area, and therefore format compatibility with a read only type optical disc can be maintained. The additional area is reserved only when the PCA is used up, thus capacity compatibility with a read only type optical disc can be maintained while laser power is adjusted with only the PCA.

Optical recording/reproducing apparatus

A digital signal processor () arithmetically determines a comparison level for comparing each signal component by determining a comparison level of comparators (and) for comparing a fine clock mark signal such that a larger weight is assigned to the comparison level of the signal component already compared. The comparators (and) compare the fine clock mark signal with reference to a level set on a peak side and a level set on a bottom side. When digital signal processor () receives the comparison signal from one of the comparators (and) prior to the comparison signal sent from the other, the digital signal processor produces a fine clock mark detection signal FCMT based on the comparison signal sent from a comparator (). Thereby, the clock can be accurately produced based on the fine clock mark signal even when a signal component having a larger amplitude than that of the fine clock mark signal is detected.

Optical disk apparatus capable of generating clock accurately

The optical disk apparatus is provided with a Viterbi decoder and an expected value correction circuit. The branch metric operation unit calculates first, second and third errors between sampling data and expected values, and outputs them to the expected value correction circuit. The expected value correction circuit extracts the sampling data in a region where its variation is small based on the first, second and third errors, calculates the average values of the extracted sampling data to correct the first, second and third expected values, and outputs the corrected expected values to the branch metric operation unit. The Viterbi decoder performs Viterbi decoding of the sampling data based on the first, second and third corrected expected values. Thus, high-precision Viterbi decoding is permitted even if the amplitude value of the reproduction signal varies.

A lithium secondary battery comprises a negative electrode capable of intercalating/deintercalating lithium ion, a positive electrode made of a lithium-containing metal oxide as an active positive material, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, and a polyvinylidene fluoride resin is disposed between said negative electrode and positive electrode so that the battery voltage doesn't rise beyond a predetermined value even when said battery is overcharged.

The nonaqueous secondary battery according to the invention uses a separator which is a composite resin film with a reinforcing material layer integrally filled with polyvinylidene fluoride resin or a separator which is a composite resin film with a polyvinylidene fluoride resin layer and a reinforcing material layer stacked thereon. In this way, when the reinforcing material layer is integrally filled with the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVdF) resin , or the reinforcing material layer is stacked on the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVdF) resin layer , even if the polyvinylidene fluoride resin swells, its swelling is limited by the reinforcing material layer in the directions of width and length so that the separator or does not wrinkle.

Nonaqueous secondary battery

A nonaqueous secondary battery of the present invention comprises a polyvinylidene fluoride resin layer formed on either or both of the surface of the positive electrode and the negative electrode. This polyvinylidene fluoride resin layer exhibits excellent liquid retaining properties and thus can be formed on the surface of the electrodes to reduce the capacity drop during high temperature storage and hence improve the high temperature storage properties of the battery.

A non-aqueous secondary battery comprising a negative electrode made of an active negative electrode material capable of intercalating/deintercalating lithium ion, a positive electrode made of spinnel type lithium manganese oxide as a main active positive electrode material and an electrolyte containing a non-aqueous solvent is characterized in that said positive electrode comprises lithium cobalt oxide in admixture with spinnel type lithium manganese oxide having crystal lattices partially substituted by magnesium or aluminum and said non-aqueous solvent comprises vinylene carbonate incorporated therein.

Non-aqueous secondary battery

A rechargeable lithium battery has a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a non-aqueous electrolyte. The positive or negative electrode contains, as its active material, a complex oxide comprising a material represented by the compositional formula M Ti O and including an anatase-form crystal structure phase, wherein M is at least one metallic element selected from V, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Mo and Ir and x satisfies the relationship 0<x&lE;0.11. Lithium may further be added to the complex oxide.

Rechargeable lithium battery

In order to reproduce signals from a double-layer optical disc having two signal recording surfaces, a focus jump that the focusing of an objective lens from the one signal recording surface to the other signal recording surface is quickly achieved, is necessary. When a focus error signal (FE) from a pickup ( ) reaches a predetermined threshold value (Vcomp), a deceleration signal for decelerating the objective lens ( ) is supplied to an actuator ( ). Preferably, a deceleration pulse voltage is lowered step by step. The focus jump is performed by using a lens ( ) having a controllable focal distance. Preferably, whether the layer is the first layer or the second layer is judged based on the reflected luminous power. If the focus error signal (FE) from the other layer is not obtained even when a certain time passages after the focus jump is started, the objective lens ( ) is moved in the reverse direction.

Optical disk device

In a lithium secondary battery of this invention, either a positive electrode or a negative electrode includes, as an active material, an orthorhombic composite oxide represented by a composition formula, M Mo O , wherein M is at least one transition element selected from the group consisting of Cu, V, Mn, Fe, Co and Ni; 0<x&lE;0.46; and 2.6&lE;y&lE;3.1, or a composition formula, M Nb O , wherein M is at least one transition element selected from the group consisting of V, Cr, Mo, W. Mn and Fe; 0<x&lE;0.6; and 4.7&lE;y&lE;5.3, or an orthorhombic lithium-containing composite oxide obtained by incorporating lithium into the orthorhombic composite oxide. Thus, the lithium secondary battery can exhibit better charge-discharge cycle performance than a lithium secondary battery using MoO or Nb O as an active material.
