This liquid crystal display device has a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first and second substrates, a seal, and a spacer. The seal includes: a first seal part having a linear shape in a first direction; a second seal part having a linear shape in a second direction; and a third seal part having a curved shape that smoothly connects the first seal part and the second seal part. When a second region is a region surrounded by the outer periphery of a first region for displaying an image, the third seal part, a first normal line that extends downward from the boundary point between the first seal part and the third seal part to the outer periphery of the first region, and a second normal line that extends downward from the boundary point between the second seal part and the third seal part to the outer periphery of the first region, and a third region is a region other than the first region and the second region, the spacer arrangement density is greater in the second region than in the third region.

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a configuration that allows the corners of a sealing material to be appropriately cut. The liquid crystal display device is provided with a liquid crystal panel that includes: an annular sealing material that has a corner in plan view and is for sealing a liquid crystal layer between a first transparent substrate and a second transparent substrate; and a first panel cutting aid material that is embedded in the corner of the sealing material. The first panel cutting aid material has a height that matches the gap between the first transparent substrate and the second transparent substrate. The first panel cutting aid material has a surface that is exposed from the outer periphery of the sealing material.

Liquid crystal display device and production method for liquid crystal display device

An object is to provide a technique capable of increasing a display quality of a liquid crystal display device. A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel including a liquid crystal layer with a liquid crystal, an electrode applying voltage to the liquid crystal, and a pair of polarization plates sandwiching the liquid crystal layer. A first voltage is applied to a liquid crystal in a local area in the liquid crystal panel when a transmissivity of the local area is set to a predetermined local minimum value, and a second voltage is applied to a liquid crystal in a remaining area other than the local area in the liquid crystal panel when the transmissivity of the remaining area is set to a predetermined local minimum value. The first voltage is different from the second voltage.

A liquid crystal display apparatus of the present invention includes a housing holding an outer peripheral portion of a liquid crystal panel with gap portions provided in a central portion thereof such that a curvature of a curved shape is variable when a surface pressing stress is applied, in which columnar spacers are arranged at a higher density in a region of the central portion in a curve direction than in a region of a peripheral portion, the density being the density of the columnar spacers holding a gap between glass substrates in a display region of the curved liquid crystal panel.

Liquid crystal display apparatus

A liquid crystal display device according to the present invention includes an array substrate and a CF substrate. The CF substrate includes a lattice-shaped light shielding pattern between pixel electrodes and a columnar spacer at an intersection of the light shielding patterns. The array substrate and the CF substrate are disposed so as to face each other with a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween. The intersection includes a portion in which signal lines intersect each other and a portion in which the signal lines do not intersect each other, whereby a step is provided on a surface of the array substrate. The columnar spacer includes a main spacer in the portion in which the signal lines intersect each other and a sub-spacer in the portion in which the signal lines do not intersect each other.

A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel including a plurality of pixels that are arranged in a matrix pattern, a backlight provided on a back surface side of the liquid crystal panel to emit light for illuminating the liquid crystal panel, and a viewing angle restriction film provided between the liquid crystal panel and the backlight to narrow light distribution of the light emitted from the backlight in one direction. Each pixel includes a plurality of sub-pixels that are arranged correspondingly to a plurality of display colors. An aperture in each sub-pixel is elongated in the one direction in a surface of the liquid crystal panel.

In a liquid crystal display, a liquid crystal cell and a polarizing plate respectively have a planar, non-rectangular shape. The polarizing plate has an axis that is either an absorption axis or a slow axis. The planar shape of the polarizing plate includes first and second sides respectively extending in a direction perpendicular to the axis and a direction tilted from the axis. The polarizing plate includes first and second peripheral portions respectively lying along the first and second sides, and includes a corner portion lying at a portion where the first and second peripheral portions overlap each other. The polarizing plate is applied by a bonding agent onto a main surface of the liquid crystal cell so that the corner portion is not coupled to the main surface. A contour portion extending in a direction tilted from the axis may not be coupled to the main surface.

A pretilt angle of a liquid crystal molecule on the side of an array substrate is formed such that the liquid crystal molecule goes away from the array substrate in a direction to the left when viewed from a position facing a display surface of a liquid crystal panel. The pretilt angle on the side of a counter substrate is formed such that the liquid crystal molecule goes away from the counter substrate in a direction to the right when viewed from a position facing the display surface. The directions to the left and the right define a direction X corresponding to a horizontal direction of the liquid crystal panel. A direction of a delay phase axis of a biaxial phase difference film is arranged in a position rotated anticlockwise in an angular range from over 0&#xb0; to 1&#xb0; from the direction X.

Liquid crystal panel, liquid crystal display device including liquid crystal panel, and method of manufacturing liquid crystal panel

A liquid crystal display device includes: a display panel which includes a TFT array substrate and a CF substrate arranged as opposed to each other, and a liquid crystal held therebetween; and a front panel which is adhered to a front surface side of the display panel with a resin layer interposed therebetween. A display region of the display panel is provided with main spacers formed on the CF substrate and making contact with the TFT array substrate, and sub-spacers formed on the CF substrate and not reaching the TFT array substrate. A ratio of a total contact area of the main spacers and the TFT array substrate with respect to an area of the display region of the liquid crystal panel is equal to or smaller than 0.02%.

Provided is a liquid crystal display apparatus capable of preventing a disclination and minimizing a decrease in contrast ratio caused by leakage of light. A counter electrode formed on an array substrate has a plurality of slits within one pixel. The slit which is relatively short has bent edge portions in which edges of the slit are bent. The slits which are relatively long do not have bent edges.

A liquid crystal display device of a horizontal electric field type includes: a first electrode and a second electrode formed on a liquid-crystal-side surface of the first transparent substrate, and two polarization plates respectively adhered such that respective transmission axes thereof are orthogonal to each other, wherein the liquid crystal material is rotated by an electric field generated between the first electrode and the second electrode. With respect to the transmission axis located in an extending direction between the first electrode and the second electrode, an initial orientation direction of the liquid crystal material is within a range between a direction rotated by 0.5-degree in an opposite response direction of the liquid crystal material and a direction orthogonal to an electric field direction generated between the first electrode and the second electrode.

The performance of a semiconductor device having a memory element is improved. An insulating film, which is a gate insulating film for a memory element, is formed on a semiconductor substrate, and a gate electrode for the memory element is formed on the insulating film. The insulating film has a first insulating film, a second insulating film thereon, and a third insulating film thereon. The second insulating film is a high-dielectric constant insulator film having a charge accumulating function and contains hafnium, silicon, and oxygen. Each of the first insulating film and the third insulating film has a band gap larger than the band gap of the second insulating film.

Semiconductor device and method of manufacturing the same

A polysilazane film is formed over the main surface of a semiconductor substrate in such a manner that the upper surface level of the polysilazane film buried in a trench of 0.2 &#x3bc;m or less in width becomes higher than that of a pad insulating film and the upper surface level of the polysilazane film buried in a trench of 1.0 &#x3bc;m or more in width becomes lower than that of the pad insulating film. Then, heat treatment is conducted at 300&#xb0; C. or more to convert the polysilazane film into a first buried film made of silicon oxide (SiO) and remove a void in the upper portion of the narrower trench.

Method of manufacturing semiconductor device

The manufacturing method of the CMOS type semiconductor device which can suppress the boron penetration from the gate electrode of the pMOS transistors to the semiconductor substrate in the case that boron is contained in the gate electrodes, while enabling the improvement in the NBTI lifetime of the pMOS transistors, without degrading the performance of the nMOS transistors, is offered. Halogen is introduced to the semiconductor substrate of pMOS transistor formation areas. Next, a gate insulating film is formed on the semiconductor substrate of the pMOS transistor formation areas. Next, nitrogen is introduced to the gate insulating film.
