A sprinkler system for a vehicle running test course having an incline in the direction of the width of the vehicle running test course such that said vehicle running test course has a higher side and a lower side. The sprinkler system including a concave placement channel constructed on one or both sides of the vehicle running test course; multiple sprinklers capable of sprinkling water over the vehicle running test course being installed in the concave placement channel; a concave installation channel constructed on the higher side of the vehicle running test course; and multiple water sprinkler nozzles placed in the concave installation channel. The water sprinkler nozzles sprinkle water onto the higher side of the vehicle running test course such that the sprinkled water flows downward along the surface of the vehicle running test course toward the lower side of the vehicle running test course.

An image of a face including eyes is converted into a binary coded image. The binary coded image is processed to detect first and second rectangular regions including image portions representing the eyes, respectively. For this purpose, the binary coded image is scanned in a series of horizontal scan lines to detect the X and Y coordinates of initial and final pixels of a line segment representing the longest width of the face. The X coordinates of each of the first and second rectangular regions are calculated based upon the detected X coordinates of the initial and final pixels. An image portion above the line segment is scanned to detect the Y coordinate of a lowermost one of pixels forming black image portions. The Y coordinates of the first and second rectangular regions are calculated based upon the detected Y coordinate of the lowermost pixel.

A system measures a traveling direction of a vehicle based on a direction toward a coordinate position defined by output data from a geomagnetic direction sensor from a first center coordinate position of a corresponding output circle. The system derives a second center coordinate position based on the output data from the geomagnetic direction sensor. The system utilizes a first group of the second center coordinate positions and a second group of the second center coordinate positions. When it is decided that the first center coordinate position is shifted, then a new or corrected center coordinate position is derived based on the first group of the second center coordinate positions, on the other hand, when it is decided that no shift of the first center coordinate position is generated, then the corrected center coordinate positiion is derived based on the second group of the second center coordinate positions.

A ststem measures a traveling direction of a vehicle based on a direction toward a coordinate position defined by output data from a geomagnetic direction sensor from a first coordinate position of a center of a corresponding output circle. The system utilizes a preliminary coordinate position as a preliminary corrected value of the first center coordinate position and a correction value indicative of reliability of the preliminary center coordinate position for deriving a finally corrected value of the first center coordinate position. The reliability of the preliminary center coordinate position is derived from previously stored data in terms of a derived variation in a vehicular traveling direction. The system derives the finally corrected value of the first center coordinate position based on the preliminary center coordinate position and the correction value such that the finally corrected value is derived closer to the preliminary center coordinate position when the correction value is derived larger.

A system for measuring a traveling direction of a vehicle includes a geomagnetic sensor and a gyro sensor. The system utilizes first and second indices for deriving the vehicle traveling direction. The first index is indicative of a disturbance of the geomagnetic field on a short distance basis, and the second index is indicative of a disturbance of the geomagnetic field on a long distance basis. The system varies a rate of dependence upon the geomagnetic sensor and the gyro sensor based on values of the first and second indices when calculating the vehicle traveling direction.

A metal vessel has a metal bottomed cup-shaped lower member and a metal cup-shaped upper member, the upper and lower members being bonded together by a circumferential side seam. The upper member has a pouring mouth having a small diameter in the central portion thereof. A navigation system has a map memory storing map data. The road map stored in the map memory is divided into a plurality of pages further subdivided into continuous blocks. The map memory also stores identification data for the blocks and index data for various points within the map blocks. The index data includes position data for a plurality of known points. The navigation system also includes an input unit for entry of the identification data for a map memory block and/or the index data for known points, and a display unit for displaying a map block on a display monitor. A processor of the navigation system accepts entry of the index data for a travel starting point and a destination through the input unit. Based on the entered data, the processor searches for the map blocks containing the designated known points. The processor progressively expands the search area along a vector between the travel starting point and the destination. The process finds the known point closest to the travel starting point and the other known point closest to the destination along the vector and stores these as the navigation start point and the navigation end point.
