The present invention provides a method of preventing or reducing X-ray-induced temporal changes of a semiconductor photoelectric conversion film formed on a TFT substrate, in which a protective film or sheet is used to protect the semiconductor photoelectric conversion film in order to improve weather resistance such as light blocking effect and moisture resistance. The present invention provides a radiation detecting element characterized by including a substrate having a plurality of pixel areas formed thereon, each having at least one switching element and at least one charge storage capacity, a photoelectric conversion film formed on the individual pixel areas for converting radiation into electrical charge, a protective film individually covering the photoelectric conversion film and having an area that is substantially the same as or larger than that of at least the photoelectric conversion film and a seal member and a sealant arranged so as to enclose the photoelectric conversion film, for fixing the protective film.

Radiation detecting element and method of manufacturing the same

In order to prevent destruction of a read gate by excessive storage of charge without any addition or change to the manufacturing process, the array type X-ray detection apparatus using a direct conversion system, which directly converts irradiation X-rays to charge, provides each pixel cell with a sensor section for converting X-rays to an amount of charge according to the amount of X-rays, a charge collecting electrode for storing the charge generated, a read gate for transferring the stored charge to an external read amplifier and a MIS diode using a TFT. A clamp signal is applied to one end of the MIS diode. The read gate and MIS diode are formed in the same manufacturing process. Since the amount of charge stored in the charge collecting electrode is clamped to the amount of charge corresponding to the clamp signal voltage by the MIS diode, the read gate is not destroyed even with excessive X-ray irradiation. Furthermore, instead of the MIS diode, a cutoff voltage control circuit and a cutoff gate using a TFT connected to the cutoff voltage control circuit are provided. When the output of the charge storage capacitor exceeds a cutoff voltage, the cutoff gate interrupts the inflow of charge to the charge storage capacitor to suppress further increase of output, thus preventing the read gate from being destroyed.

A driving method for a spatial light modulator can provide bright image, images of high contrast and resolution with no persistence and instability, and can be used in a projection display system. The spatial light modulator is prepared by sandwiching a ferroelectric liquid crystal layer between a first substrate and a second substrate. The first substrate is prepared by sequentially laminating a transparent conductive electrode and a photoconductive layer with rectifying properties on a glass substrate. On the photoconductive layer, a reflective layer and an alignment layer for aligning a liquid crystal layer are then laminated. The second substrate is prepared by laminating a transparent conductive electrode and an alignment layer on a glass substrate. Alternating current voltage having a waveform of inconsistent cycles is applied to a section between the transparent conductive electrodes.

Radiation transmission intensity information obtained from a radiation source of two different energy levels or energy bands is used to perform an energy subtraction calculation and quantify the constituent substances of the object being analyzed. The objective is to simultaneously detect and quantify the plural substances composing the object being analyzed in a single operation using a single subtraction calculation equation. An energy subtraction calculation is first performed to eliminate a specific substance in the object being analyzed, making it possible to simultaneously determine the other two constituent substances using the negativity of the calculated result. When three substances are overlapping in the direction of radiation transmission, using the transmission intensity information from a radiation source with only two energy levels, the effect of one substance is eliminated while identifying and quantifying the other two by applying an energy subtraction calculation process that eliminates the first substance and obtains the density of a third substance, and obtains the density of the third substance in an area where the three substances overlap based on the calculated result for the area containing the first and second substances.

Transmission images are obtained by radiating X-rays having two different energy levels onto a subject in one direction, and then transformed into logarithmic images, respectively. From these logarithmic images, a contrast ratio due to the two kinds of X-rays having different energies is obtained. From this contrast ratio, the term relating to the thickness of the subject is eliminated, thereby providing information only relating to the quality of the material. By collating the information with the previously measured data of materials, the material of the subject is identified.
