A display device includes: a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix in a display area, wherein each of the plurality of pixels includes a reflective liquid crystal portion and a self-luminous element portion, in the reflective liquid crystal portion, a first substrate does not include a switching element, a reflector, a pixel electrode, a liquid crystal layer, and an opposite electrode form a reflective liquid crystal display element that operates in bistable liquid crystal display mode, in the self-luminous element portion, the first substrate includes: a switching element; a self-luminous display element including a first electrode, an organic layer, and a second electrode; and a coating layer disposed on a side of the liquid crystal layer of the self-luminous display element, and the coating layer is provided contiguously across the reflective liquid crystal portion and the self-luminous element portion.

Display device

Provided is a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal panel including in the following order an active matrix substrate, a liquid crystal layer, and a counter substrate. The active matrix substrate includes in the following order a first electrode and a second electrode including a first linear electrode portion extending in a first direction. The counter substrate includes a third electrode including second linear electrode portions extending in a second direction crossing the first direction, and a fourth electrode including an island-shaped electrode portion as a floating electrode. The island-shaped electrode portion is disposed between the second linear electrode portions in a plan view, overlaps an optical aperture of one of two pixels adjacent to each other along the second direction, and does not overlap an optical aperture of the other of the two pixels.

Liquid crystal display device

Provided is a display device including a backlight; a first liquid crystal panel; a display panel; and a second liquid crystal panel. The first liquid crystal panel includes a first substrate, a first liquid crystal layer containing first liquid crystal molecules, and a second substrate. The second liquid crystal panel includes a third substrate, a second liquid crystal layer containing second liquid crystal molecules, and a fourth substrate. The display device satisfies the following formula: |φ3−φ1|≥50°, wherein φ1 represents an azimuthal angle of a director of the first liquid crystal molecules near the first substrate with no voltage applied to the first liquid crystal layer, and 43 represents an azimuthal angle of a director of the second liquid crystal molecules near the third substrate with no voltage applied to the second liquid crystal layer.

A liquid crystal display device includes: an active matrix substrate including a first electrode and a second electrode configured to generate a transverse electrical field; a counter substrate including a plurality of third electrodes disposed at predetermined intervals and having a stripe pattern; a liquid crystal layer located between the active matrix substrate and the counter substrate; and a control circuit. The liquid crystal display device can display an image in a first viewing angle mode and a second viewing angle mode having a viewing angle narrower than the first viewing angle mode by the control circuit switching an amplitude and a waveform of a voltage applied to the third electrodes. The control circuit applies a common voltage having a different value to the first electrode or the second electrode in each of the first viewing angle mode and the second viewing angle mode.

Liquid crystal display device and method for controlling liquid crystal display device

Provided is a liquid crystal panel sequentially including: a first polarizing plate with a first absorption axis; a first substrate including a first electrode; a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules; and a second substrate including a second electrode. Liquid crystal panel and display device

Provided is a liquid crystal display device that can switch between the privacy mode and the public mode and achieve a high contrast ratio even during display in the privacy mode. The liquid crystal display panel includes: a liquid crystal panel; and a control circuit. The active matrix substrate sequentially includes a first substrate, a first electrode, a first insulating layer, and second electrodes each including a first linear electrode. The liquid crystal panel of the present invention sequentially includes: a first substrate including a first electrode; a first alignment film; a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules having a positive anisotropy of dielectric constant; a second alignment film; and a second substrate including a second electrode, the liquid crystal molecules being homogeneously aligned with no voltage applied between the first electrode and the second electrode, a polar anchoring energy 2EA and an azimuthal anchoring energy 2EB of the second alignment film being smaller than a polar anchoring energy 1EA and an azimuthal anchoring energy 1EB of the first alignment film, respectively, the polar anchoring energy 2EA of the second alignment film being not greater than the azimuthal anchoring energy 2EB of the second alignment film.

Liquid crystal panel and liquid crystal display device

The liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes an active matrix substrate including a first electrode, a first insulating layer, and second electrodes including a first linear electrode; a color filter substrate including a black matrix, a color filter layer, a third electrode including second linear electrodes, and a fourth electrode which is a floating electrode. The third electrode and the fourth electrode are disposed between the black matrix and the liquid crystal layer. The second linear electrodes extend in a second direction and each overlap a portion of the black matrix extending in the second direction. The fourth electrode is disposed between the second linear electrodes and overlaps the black matrix in a plan view. The control circuit switches between application of driving voltage and application of constant voltage to the third electrode.

Provided are a liquid crystal panel capable of achieving a small light-shielding angle in a narrow viewing angle mode and a display device including the liquid crystal panel. The liquid crystal panel sequentially includes: a first polarizing plate with a first absorption axis; a first substrate including a first electrode; a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules; and a second substrate including a second electrode, wherein in a plan view, a director of the liquid crystal molecules with no voltage applied and the first absorption axis form an angle α of not smaller than 5° and not greater than 20° or not smaller than 65° and not greater than 80°.
