In a waveguide device, unnecessary optical power is appropriately terminated. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the waveguide device has a termination structure filled with a light blocking material to terminate light from a waveguide end. In the termination structure, a cladding and a core are removed to form a groove on an optical waveguide. The groove is filled with a material (light blocking material) that attenuates the intensity of light. Thus, light input to the termination structure is attenuated by the light blocking material, suppressing crosstalk which possibly effects on other optical devices. Thus, such a termination structure can restrain crosstalk occurred in optical devices integrated in the same substrate and can also suppress crosstalk which possibly effects on any other optical device connected directly to the substrate.

Optical waveguide device and module

A microlens array, which maintains high positional accuracy with respect to an optical circuit such as a waveguide and facilitates connection operation, and an optical transmission component including the microlens array. Solution The microlens array is provided with a plurality of microlenses arranged in an array structure and having the same length in the optical axis direction and optical fibers for alignment arranged at both ends of the array structure so that the optical axis is parallel to the optical axis of the microlens and having a length in the optical axis direction the same as the length of the microlens and a guided mode diameter smaller than an aperture of the microlens.

Each of connection faces between the first PLC waveguide and the fiber alignment member is configured as an tilted structure, and each of connection faces between the LN waveguide, and the first and second PLC waveguides is configured as a right-angled structure. In the right-angled structure, the connection faces are connected by an adhesive having a lower Young's modulus than that of an adhesive used on the connection faces of the tilted structure.

An opto-electronic hybrid integrated circuit of the present invention satisfies a low-loss optical waveguide function, an optical bench function and a high-frequency electrical wiring function. The circuit includes a substrate such as a silicon substrate, a dielectric optical waveguide part arranged in a recess of the substrate, and an optical device mounting part formed on a protrusion of the substrate. An electrical wiring part is disposed on the dielectric layer. The optical device is mounted on the substrate. The circuit includes a substrate such as a silicon substrate, a dielectric optical waveguide part arranged in a recess of the substrate, and an optical device mounting part formed on a protrusion of the substrate. An electrical wiring part is disposed on the dielectric layer. The optical device is mounted on the substrate. An optical sub-module includes the optical device which is possible to mount on the substrate.

A hybrid optical integrated circuit having a high-silica glass optical waveguide formed on a silicon substrate, an optical fiber and an optical device coupled optically to the optical waveguide, and an optical fiber guide and an optical device guide on the substrate for aligning the optical fiber and the optical device at predetermining positions, respectively, relative to the optical waveguide. Islands carrying electrical conductors are disposed on the substrate. A first electrical conductor film is formed on the substrate. Second electrical conductor films are formed on the top surfaces of the optical waveguide, the optical fiber guide, the optical device guide and the islands and are electrically isolated from the first electrical conductor film. An electrical conductor member is provided to feed electric power from the first and second electric conductor films to the optical device which needs the power supply. The optical waveguide, the optical fiber guide, the optical device guide and the islands are formed from the same high-silica glass optical waveguide film. Alignment of various portions is facilitated when assembling the circuit. A high coupling efficiency is realized with a low cost.

Hybrid optical integrated circuit

A method for fabricating a hybrid optical integrated circuit having a high-silica glass optical waveguide formed on a silicon substrate, an optical fiber and an optical device coupled optically to the optical waveguide, and an optical fiber guide and an optical device guide on the substrate for aligning the optical fiber and the optical device at predetermined positions, respectively, relative to the optical waveguide. Islands carrying electrical conductors are disposed on the substrate. A first electrical conductor film is formed on the substrate. Second electrical conductor films are formed on the top surfaces of the optical waveguide, the optical fiber guide, the optical device guide and the islands and are electrically isolated from the first electrical conductor film. An electrical conductor member is provided to feed electric power from the first and second electric conductor films to the optical device which needs the power supply. The optical waveguide, the optical fiber guide, the optical device guide and the islands are formed from the same high-silica glass optical waveguide film. Alignment of various portions is facilitated when assembling the circuit. A high coupling efficiency is realized with a low cost.

Method for fabricating hybrid optical integrated circuit

A motor-driven film winder for use with a camera having a film winding mechanism has a motor, a first system for transmitting rotative power from the motor to the film winding mechanism, a second system for transmitting rotative power from the motor to a mounting screw for threaded engagement in a tripod screw hole of the camera, and a switching control assembly for selectively operating the first or second system. The second system includes first and second selector gears angularly movable about the axis of a main gear and rotatable about their own axes in opposite directions. One of the first and second selector gears is selectively coupled, at a time, to the mounting screw by the switching control assembly.

An optical switch comprising a substrate with a refractive index n.sub.1 which is transparent with respect to a guided light beam, an optical waveguide film with a refractive index n.sub.2 which is formed on the substrate, a low-refractive-index region with a refractive index n.sub.2 ' which is smaller by a predetermined value than the refractive index n.sub.2 formed at a predetermined location in the optical waveguide film, a movable dielectric chip with a refractive index n.sub.4 which is transparent with respect to the guided light beam and a relative distance of which is adjustable relative to a plane including the low-refractive-index region and a vicinal area of the optical waveguide film in the vicinity of the region, and an intermediate layer with a refractive index n.sub.3 disposed between the plane and the movable dielectric chip wherein the refractive indices n.sub.1, n.sub.2, n.sub.2 ', n.sub.3 and n.sub.4 have a relationship of n.sub.2 &gt;n.sub.2 '&gt;n.sub.4 &gt;(n.sub.1, n.sub.3), and effective refractive indices of the optical waveguide film and the low-refractive-index region are varied by changing a distance between the plane and the movable dielectric chip, so that guided light beam incident to the region is deflected. With such an arrangement, a deflection angle of 20.degree. or more is obtained, so that the optical switch is suitable for the integration of the optical switch.
