A power source apparatus mounted to a vehicle is equipped with a lead-acid battery and a lithium battery. An open circuit voltage and an internal resistance of each of the batteries are determined to satisfy the following conditions (a), (a), and (a): (a) In the use range of SOC of the lead-acid battery and the use range of SOC of the lithium battery, there is an equal voltage point Vds at which the open circuit voltage V(Pb) of the lead-acid battery becomes equal to the open circuit voltage V(Li) of the lithium battery; (a) The relationship of V(Li)&#x3e;V(Pb) is satisfied in the upper limit side of the use range of SOC of the battery; and (a) A terminal voltage Vc (Li) of the lithium battery is not more than a set voltage Vreg of a regulator when a maximum current flows in the lithium battery.

Power source apparatus for vehicle

The power supply unit includes a lead secondary battery (first battery) that is capable of being charged with power generated by an alternator (power generator); a lithium secondary battery (second battery) that is electrically connected in parallel to the lead secondary battery, capable of being charged with power generated by the alternator (power generator), and has higher output density or higher energy density than the lead secondary battery; and a switching means that is electrically connected between the alternator and the lead secondary battery, and the lithium secondary battery, and switches between conduction and blocking. The switching means is configured by a plurality of MOS-FETs (semiconductor switches) being connected in series such that respective parasitic diodes present in the semiconductor switches face opposite directions.

Power supply unit having plurality of secondary batteries

An on-board battery assembly includes a cell stack, a blowing member, and a control component. The cell stack includes a plurality of cell modules. The cell stack has one side face that extends generally along a width axis orthogonal to a longitudinal axis of the plurality of cell modules. The blowing member having a blow-out port that has a dimension generally equivalent to a dimension of the one side face. The blowing member includes a casing having a suction port and a flow channel. The flow channel has a width that becomes greater toward the blow-out port. The control component is provided in a space defined between the casing and a plane, which is perpendicular to the width axis, and which includes an end portion of the one side face.

On-board battery assembly

A battery system for a vehicle warms up a battery, which is mounted to charge and discharge. A charge/discharge unit is located closer to a battery set than an inverter unit is. When the battery set cannot produce a required output power because of its low temperature, a control unit controls the charge/discharge unit to charge and discharge and also controls a blower to deliver heat transfer medium, which receives heat generated from the charge/discharge unit, to the battery set, so that the battery set is warmed up to produce the required output power at earlier time.

Battery system for vehicle

In a voltage detecting apparatus, a voltage controlled oscillator, when an input voltage is applied thereto, outputs a signal with a logical value that is periodically inverted. A detector counts a number of logical inversion of the output signal from the voltage controlled oscillator over an interval between edges of pulses of a pulse signal to thereby generate, based on the counted number of logical inversion, digital data as a detected result of the input voltage. A determiner determines whether a reduction of a time required to detect the input voltage is higher in priority than an increase of a resolution of detection of the input voltage. A variably setting unit variably sets a frequency of the pulse signal based on a result of the determination of whether the reduction of the time required to detect the input voltage is higher in priority than the increase of the resolution of detection of the input voltage.

Voltage detecting apparatus with voltage controlled oscillator and battery state control system

The state monitoring apparatus includes a high-voltage side monitoring section having monitoring units assigned to respective unit batteries and a low-voltage side monitoring section having a control device. The monitoring units measures the voltages of the unit batteries upon reception of a voltage measurement command transmitted from the control device, and determines whether or not the measured voltages are within a predetermined range. This determination is transmitted to the control device. If this determination is negative, the control device limits a charge/discharge current of the assembled battery, and then causes the monitoring units to transmit the measured voltages.

State monitoring apparatus for assembled battery

A temperature control device has a heat exchanger recovering heat from exhaust gas of an engine, a water circulating passage in which a cooling water is circulated while receiving the recovered heat, an air conditioning unit heating air with the hot cooling water of the passage to produce a temperature controlled air, an air duct, a water heater attached to the bottom surface of a battery pack, and an electric heater attached side surfaces of the pack. The conditioning unit blows the controlled air against the battery pack through the duct. The water heater receives the hot cooling water of the passage and raises the temperature of the battery pack. The electric heater subsidiarily warms the battery pack with heat generated from electric power of the pack.

Temperature control device for on-board battery pack

An analog to digital converting device has a first converter nonlinearly converting an analog level into a first digital value every first sampling period, shorter than a second sampling period, with low precision, a second converter linearly converting the analog level into a second digital value every second sampling period with high precision, and a controller determining a correction equation by using the second digital value having a high precision in each second sampling period so as to renew the equation every second sampling period, and correcting the first digital values, obtained in each second sampling period, to corrected digital values according to the corresponding correction equation to output the corrected digital value as a digital value, obtained by substantially linearly converting the analog level, every first sampling period.

Device for converting analog signal into digital values and correcting the values

A vehicle power supply apparatus has first and second engine-driven electrical generators and first and second storage batteries, the first generator supplying a stable voltage to the first battery and a first set of loads, and the second generator supplying the second battery and a second set of loads, which can tolerate supply voltage variations. Operation of the second generator and charging/discharging of the second battery are controlled to maintain the total engine torque applied to the generators at a level whereby fuel consumption is reduced, while the supply voltage of the variation-tolerant loads is allowed to vary substantially.

Vehicle-use electric generator apparatus

In an A/D converting apparatus, a converting unit has an input terminal and an input-output characteristic. The input-output characteristic has temperature dependence, and the converting unit carries out a process of converting an input voltage signal to digital data. A temperature determining unit has information representing a relationship between a variable of an output of the converting unit and a variable of a temperature around the converting unit according to the temperature dependence of the input-output characteristic of the converting unit. When the specified voltage is applied to the input terminal of the converting unit, the temperature determining unit determines a value of the temperature around the converting unit based on the information and the specified voltage. A reducing unit reduces temperature dependence of the process of converting an input voltage signal to digital data based on the determined value of the temperature around the converting unit.

Analog-to-digital converting apparatus with lower temperature dependence

A power supply control system for a vehicle includes a supply line system, a first electric generating means, a second electric generating means, and a control means. The first electric generating means generates electricity through use of a mechanical drive force of a drive source of the vehicle, which drives the vehicle to run. The second electric generating means generates electricity through use of a heat energy. The first and second electric generating means are connected to the supply line system. The control means controls the first electric generating means and the second electric generating means.

A power control apparatus acquires a maximum supply amount of power, transient maximum supply amount of power, and transient minimum supply amount of power of each power supply source. The apparatus further acquires a power cost of respective power supply sources, a load-required power and a charge request power. The apparatus acquires a combination of power supply sources that minimizes specific fuel consumption and determines an allocation amount of power. Taking transient response of respective power supply sources into account, the allocation amount of power of each power supply sources is corrected to be greater than a transient minimum supply power and smaller than a transient maximum supply power.

Power control apparatus and method for electrical system of vehicle

An amount of electric power generatable by an exhaust gas-driven rotating electric machine is determined corresponding to an operating point, so that an increment amount of fuel by the exhaust gas-driven electric power generation is smaller than engine-driven alternator power generation. The power generation can be thereby performed by effectively utilizing exhaust energy of the engine.

Exhaust gas-driven generator system and method of controlling electrical system

An over-charge determining circuit provided for every unit cell generates, a cell over-charge detection signal which becomes high level when a cell voltage is higher than an upper limit value of an allowable voltage range thereof which is set as the threshold value voltage. The threshold value voltage is changed to a lower limit value of the allowable voltage range with which the cell over-charge detection signal surely becomes high level. Even when an output of an AND circuit for obtaining a logical product of the cell over-charge detection signals should become high, if an over-charge determining circuit of which output is fixed to the low level due to a fault of the like exists, the output of the AND circuit becomes low.

Set battery charging condition detecting apparatus

A large number of rechargeable unit cells connected in series forming a combination battery are divided into groups of cells, each group including several cells, preferably, three to five cells. Voltage unevenness among the cells in each group is eliminated by operation of a voltage balancer device connected to each group of cells. The voltage balancer device includes a circuit for equally dividing a terminal voltage of the group of cells and obtaining an average voltage among the cells. The average voltage is compared with an individual cell voltage, and the cells having a voltage higher than the average voltage are discharged so that all cell voltages in the group become equal. A plurality of the battery modules each including the group of cells and the voltage balancer device are connected in series to form a single combination battery, and voltage unevenness among the battery modules are controlled by another voltage control device. The voltage unevenness among cells in a group may be eliminated by charging a capacitor from cells having a higher voltage and charging cells having a lower voltage from the charged capacitor. Thus, the voltage unevenness among the combination battery cells is eliminated by a simple and inexpensive device.
