A recording liquid containing an aqueous medium, a pigment and a polymer, wherein the polymer comprises at least one polymer containing a repeating unit A having at least one of a carboxyl group and an acid anhydride group and an allylether unit B of the formula (I), ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl group, R.sub.3 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkylcarbonyl group, an alkenyl group, an alkenylcarbonyl group, an aryl group, an arylcarbonyl group, an aralkyl group, an aralkylcarbonyl group, a cycloalkyl group, a cycloalkylcarbonyl group, a heterocyclic group or a carbonyl group having a heterocyclic group, and these groups other than a hydrogen atom may have a substituent, and n is from 1 to 50.

Recording liquid

Disclosed is a recording liquid comprising a carbon black dispersed in an aqueous medium, which is characterized in that a toluene extract of the carbon black has an absorbance of 0.05 or less at .lambda.max within the range of from 330 nm to 340 nm or at 337.5 nm when the toluene extract does not have .lambda.max within the range of from 330 nm to 340 nm. The recording liquid can be used in ink-jet recording in high safety. During and after long storage of the recording liquid, the carbon black does not precipitate out. Using the recording liquid, reliable recording can be attained with good jettable durability of the liquid. Even when the recording liquid is recorded onto ordinary papers, high-quality images with good water-fastness and good light-fastness can be formed. The recording liquid is especially suitable for thermal ink-jet recording systems.

A black-type recording liquid, even when used for ink-jet recording instruments or for recording with ordinary writing instruments on plain paper, is capable of forming a recorded image with high printing quality: high density, excellent color tone, and excellent water and light resistance, and is highly stable when stored for a long time.

A recording liquid comprising a coloring matter, which is an image-forming component, and a liquid medium for dissolving or dispersing the coloring matter, said recording liquid being characterized by containing as coloring matter the above-mentioned monoazo compound.

A recording liquid containing carbon black dispersed in an aqueous medium, wherein the volume ratio of carbon black having a particle size of at least 0.2 .mu.m to the total carbon black is at least 50% by volume, and the volume ratio of carbon black having a particle size of at least 0.6 .mu.m to the total carbon black is at most 20% by volume.

An image protecting film useful for protecting an image recorded on a porous recording medium by an ink jet recording system, which film comprises a light transmitting non-porous support and a layer composed mainly of a polyester resin formed on the support, said polyester resin being a copolymer comprising aliphatic dicarboxylic acid units, aromatic dicarboxylic acid units and aliphatic polyol units. Also disclosed is an image protecting method which comprises overlaying the above image protecting film on a porous recording medium having an image recorded thereon, so that the layer composed mainly of the polyester resin is in contact with the recording medium, followed by hot press bonding. The image protected by the image protecting film and the image protecting method of the present invention is excellent in the light resistance, the water resistance and the color development.

A recording liquid and an ink-jet recording method in which the recording liquid is used to record an image on a recording material comprising a substrate having provided thereon an ink-receiving layer containing a silicon-containing pigment and a binder resin by means of an ink-jet recording technique are disclosed, the recording liquid containing a solvent and at least one dye represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein A represents a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl, or naphthyl group; B represents a substituted or unsubstituted phenylene or naphthylene group; C represents an organic group as defined in the specification.

A recording medium comprising a non-porous substrate and a coating layer formed thereon, said coating layer comprising a carboxyl group-containing ionomer-type hydrophilic urethane resin and organic and/or inorganic fine particles.

A recording liquid containing these compounds is suitable for use in an ink-jet recording system.
