A recording method of the present disclosure, which is a recording method of performing recording on a recording medium by using a recording device including an ink jet head, includes ejecting a composition for ink jet from the ink jet head, in which the composition for ink jet contains a metal pigment, the metal pigment is formed of a plurality of scaly metal particles, the ink jet head includes a circulation flow path for circulating the composition for ink jet, and an average thickness of the metal particles determined by atomic force microscopy is 19 nm or less.

Recording method and recording device

An ink jet ink set includes a plurality of inks to be ejected by an ink jet method. The ink set includes a first ink containing metal particles, and a second ink containing a coloring agent selected from materials other than metal. The surface tension of the first ink is lower than that of the second ink.

An aqueous coating composition includes a base metal pigment surface-treated with a fluorinated compound, a wax and water. Particles of the base metal pigment are flake-shaped. In the aqueous coating composition, a relationship of 0.65&#x2264;D/Z is satisfied where D is an average particle diameter of the wax and Z is an average thickness of the base metal pigment.

A pigment dispersion liquid is a pigment dispersion liquid for a solvent-based ink including a base metal pigment and an organic solvent, in which the base metal pigment is subjected to a surface treatment by a fluorine-based compound, and in which the concentration of a fluorine element is from 8 atm % to 35 atm % when an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis of the surface of the base metal pigment is performed.

Disclosed herein is a base metal pigment, which is used for an aqueous ink composition containing water as a part of a solvent, in which the base metal pigment is surface-treated with a fluorine-based compound, and has a zeta potential of greater than or equal to &#x2212;50 mV and less than or equal to &#x2212;15 mV, as measured by an ultrasonic zeta potential measurement device, in a pH range of greater than or equal to 5 and less than or equal to 10.
