An optical fiber fusion splicing method for performing fusion splicing through positioning of optical fibers to be spliced in a V-groove is provided. The optical fiber fusion splicing method includes pressing the optical fibers placed in the V-groove relatively toward the V-groove using a clamp, varying a clamp pressure of the clamp pressing the optical fibers, and moving the optical fibers placed in the V-groove with respect to the V-groove in an axial direction.

A reinforcement sleeve heating device is a reinforcement sleeve heating device heating a reinforcement sleeve put on a connecting site to shrink the reinforcement sleeve in order to reinforce the connecting site of optical fibers fusion-spliced to each other. A fusion splicer includes a first electrode, a second electrode, an optical fiber disposition unit, and a first conductive member. The first electrode has a first potential, the second electrode has a second potential lower than the first potential, and an arc discharge is generated therebetween. The optical fiber disposition unit has grooves in which first optical fibers and second optical fibers are accommodated. The first conductive member is provided apart from the grooves between the first electrode and the second electrode. A device for fusion splicing, by an arc discharge, a pair or a plurality of pairs of optical fibers arranged so that end surfaces thereof face each other. An optical fiber arrangement portion positions the pair or the plurality of pairs of optical fibers between a pair of electrodes. A control portion controls a voltage applied to the pair of electrodes. The control portion generates a first discharge between the pair of electrodes, stops the first discharge between the pair of electrodes, and then generates an arc discharge between the pair of electrodes to fusion-splice the pair or the plurality of pairs of optical fibers to each other. A discharge time of the first discharge is 200 milliseconds or less. A time from stopping the first discharge to starting the arc discharge is 100 milliseconds or less.

A fusion splicer includes an irradiation unit to irradiate an optical fiber with first wavelength light and second wavelength light; a light receiving unit; a processing unit to extract first feature data from first luminance information based on the first wavelength light and to extract second feature data from second luminance information based on the second wavelength light; a determination unit to determine whether the first feature data and the second feature data are within a predetermined range; and a drive unit to move one optical fiber on the basis of the luminance information from which the feature data is extracted so as to arrange the axes of the optical fibers in a predetermined positional relationship when the feature data is determined to be within the predetermined range. The processing unit extracts the second feature data when the first feature data is not within the predetermined range.

Provided is an optical fiber holder comprising a holder body and a cover. The holder body has an accommodation section capable of accommodating a plurality of optical fibers. The holder body or the cover has at least one ridge which can be disposed within the accommodation section. When the cover is closed over the holder body, a plurality of sections which can parallelly accommodate the plurality of optical fibers are parallelly formed by the inner surface of the accommodation section, the lower surface of the cover, and the ridge.

The sleeve housing portion includes a first wall portion extending in a longitudinal direction of the sleeve housing portion and a second wall portion facing the first wall portion. The first wall portion and the second wall portion are configured such that a distance therebetween increases from a bottom portion side of the sleeve housing portion toward a top portion side of the sleeve housing portion in a cross-section orthogonal to the longitudinal direction. At least one bent portion is formed to at least one of the first wall portion and the second wall portion in the cross-section.

A reinforcing apparatus for reinforcing a fusion-splicing part between optical fibers includes a main body part, a heater that heats a heat-shrinkable tube covering the fusion-splicing part, and a pair of clamp parts that are provided at opposite sides of the heater and respectively hold an optical fiber or an optical connector. The pair of the clamp parts respectively include a storage part that stores the optical fiber or the optical connector, and a clamper that is rotatably supported in the main body part and can be disposed in an open state where an upper portion of the storage part is opened and in a closed state where the optical fiber or the optical connector stored in the storage part is sandwiched. A clamp part of at least one part of the pair of clamp parts includes a sliding part that is slidably mounted on a storage part.

An optical fiber holder includes a holder main body, a V-groove which is formed on an upper surface of the holder main body and accommodates a first optical fiber, a recessed groove which is formed on a same straight line with the V-groove and accommodates a second optical fiber having a coating portion with a larger outer diameter than the first optical fiber, and an abutting portion which is provided on an end portion of the recessed groove on an opposite side to the V-groove and includes an opening portion which has a smaller width than the recessed groove. When the second optical fiber is accommodated in the recessed groove, a fiber core wire of the second optical fiber protrudes to an outside via the opening portion and an end portion of the coating portion of the second optical fiber abuts on the abutting portion.

An optical fiber cutting apparatus includes a body portion on which an optical fiber is mounted, a cover member that is rotatably connected to the body portion and fixes the optical fiber between the body portion and the cover member by rotating toward the body portion, a blade member configured to form a flaw on a glass fiber portion of the optical fiber which is fixed, and a holding member mounted on the body portion, the holding member configured to hold the blade member. The cover member presses the holding member and thereby the blade member imparts an arc movement to form the flaw on the glass fiber portion.

An optical fiber fusion splicer includes optical fiber holders that hold optical fibers. Each optical fiber holder includes a base, a cover, and a connecting portion. The cover has pressing members that press the optical fiber F placed on the setting table against the setting table. The connecting portion joins the cover to the base such that the cover is openable away from and closeable over the base and movable in the longitudinal direction of the base.
