To provide a photo detection device and a manufacturing method thereof, the photo detection device comprising a SPAD in which a substrate-manufacturing cost is kept sufficiently low compared to InGaAs, afterpulsing is less and DCR is also reduced. A photo detection device detecting an incident light from an object, comprising: (i) a P-type silicon (Si) substrate; (ii) a P-type germanium (Ge) layer formed by epitaxial growth on a first surface serving as a front surface of the P-type silicon (Si) substrate; and (iii) a P-type thin film silicon (Si) layer formed on the P-type germanium (Ge) layer, (iv) wherein the P-type thin film silicon (Si) layer is divided into a first region and a second region by a Shallow Trench Isolation (STI), multiple single photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) arranged in an array are formed in the first region, and a CMOS transistor circuit driving the SPADs is formed in the second region.

A data multiplex transmission system including a data multiplexer, a demultiplex controller and a clock generator for terminal interface is disclosed, in which one block of an error correction code of a variable word length whose rate can be easily matched with the multiplex rate is set into one transmission frame. The multiframes of the least common multiple of the number of multiframes such that the multiplex rate which cannot be matched in one transmission frame is matched are set, thereby allowing the bit stuff reference timing to be integratedly handled. Further, transmission frame header information and control data link are provided, thereby allowing the multiplex transmission to be executed in accordance with a predetermined communication procedure. This transmission frame can realize the advanced communication by the header information and control data link. Thus, the data multiplex transmission can be performed with a simple construction while keeping the high efficiency and high reliability. Further, the transmission frame pull-in time is reduced by the bit error permission type pattern matching for the multiframe sync bits.

The method of using the ergometer enables a user to select a physical strength program and a weight reduction program with the selected program reflecting the age, sex, and the present physical condition of the user.

A drive and control circuit for laser diodes includes: a first switching element connected in series to a laser diode connected to a constant-current source for actuating the laser diode when a binary drive signal is at one level thereof; an impedance element connected in parallel to the series circuit of the laser diode and the first switching element, the impedance element being connected to receive the constant-current source together with the laser diode and having impedance characteristics substantially equal to those of the laser diode and the constant-current source; an integrator circuit for integrating the data at the one level; an impedance control circuit for variably controlling the impedance of the impedance element in response to the integrator circuit; and a second switching element connected in series to the impedance element for actuating the impedance element when the drive signal is at the other level.
