A battery-powered light source devicehas an DC/DC converterthat boosts the supply voltage of a batteryand supplies electrical power to a lamp, and, inside this DC/DC converter, are provided a comparatorthat compares a specific reference voltage to the output voltage of a DC/DC converter, and a control componentthat keeps the output voltage from the DC/DC converterat a specific lamp voltage on the basis of the comparison result of this comparator, whereby the supply voltage of the batteryis boosted and the optimal lamp voltage is obtained. Consequently, the battery-powered light source deviceallows the brightness of the lamp to be adjusted and a high step-up efficiency to be obtained, and the battery can therefore be used more efficiently, and a more convenient use of the endoscope is possible.

An endoscope apparatus capable of preventing occurrence of problems trouble attributable to exhaustion of a battery has an endoscope and a battery-powered light source. The endoscope has a light guide fiber bundle over which illumination light is propagated. The battery-powered light source is freely detachably attached to the endoscope, and includes an illumination lamp and a battery. The illumination lamp supplies illumination light to the incidence end of the light guide fiber bundle on which illumination light falls. The battery serves as a power supply causing the illumination lamp to light. At least one of the endoscope and battery-powered light source has an indication unit for notifying a user of the amount of electrical energy contained in the battery.

A camera has a photomerry device to measure luminance of an object. The camera is provided with a strobe unit in which a strobe light is automatically emitted when the result of measurement by the photometry device is smaller than a predetermined luminance and an amount of light emission can be changed. The camera with the strobe unit includes a range finder to measure a distance of an object; a memory having a flashmatic calculation table in which F-number corresponding to the distance of the object are set according to a guide number which is used as a reference; a calculator in which a value of the guide number is changed according to a reference F-number in the flashmatic calculation table obtained by the measurement by the range finder and a desired F-number is found. The camera further includes a controller in which a strobe light is emitted by controlling the strobe unit by the desired F-number obtained by the calculation result of the calculator.

To provide a small-sized and inexpensive flash lighting circuit for a camera capable of fully reducing red eyes reflection, a sub capacitor, a main capacitor and a flash discharge tube are connected in parallel to a DC-DC converter, whereby the sub capacitor is directly connected to the DC-DC converter, the main capacitor is connected to the above parallel connected line through a first diode which prevents the charge of the main capacitor from flowing into the flash discharge tube to allow preliminary lighting, the thyristor for changing over preliminary lighting and main lighting is disposed between the main capacitor and the flash discharge tube on a bypass line led out from the junction point of the main capacitor and the first diode, and a second diode, which prevents the charge of the main capacitor flowing into the sub capacitor after the sub capacitor has been first discharged at the time of main lighting, is disposed on the above parallel connected line between the cathode of the thyristor and the sub capacitor.

Camera incorporating a zoom lens which includes an operating member for zooming, a means for driving the zoom lens, and a control for controlling the drive means. The control means controls the drive means in a first driving mode in which the zoom lens is moved in a predetermined direction upon operation of the operating member and is also moved in the same direction upon further operation of the operating member. The moving direction is reversed upon reaching either the telescopic end of the travel or at the wide-angle end of the travel. Alternatively, a second driving mode is provided wherein the zoom lens is moved in a predetermined direction upon operation of the operating member, reverses direction of movement upon further operation of the operating member, and reverses a moving direction upon reaching either the telescopic end of the travel or at the wide angle end of the travel.

A camera boosting circuit includes an oscillating transistor, a depletion FET, an oscillating boosting circuit, and a control circuit. The oscillating transistor converts a DC voltage of a camera power source battery into an AC voltage. The oscillating boosting circuit converts the DC voltage into an AC voltage together with the oscillating transistor, boosts the AC voltage using a transformer, and obtains a high DC voltage by rectifying the boosted AC voltage. The control circuit controls an oscillating operation of the transistor by ON/OFF-operating the FET.

A method for automatically rewinding the film in a camera having a battery-powered automatic film rewinder, including a motor, a microprocessor, a control circuit, a timer, a microswitch associated with a film frame counter and a microswitch associated with a sprocket. The method comprises the steps of: determining from the time being taken to advance a single frame of film, whether a first film winding abnormality is occurring; determining whether the abnormality is caused by a deterioration in the power source for the automatic film winding mechanism; determining from the time being taken to advance a single frame of film, whether a second film winding abnormality is occurring; determining whether the second winding abnormality is occurring coincidentally with the film being in the vicinity of the last frame of film on the film roll; and rewinding the film only upon determining that the second film winding abnormality is occurring coincidentally with the last frame of exposed film being in the vicinity of the last frame of film on the film roll.
