The present invention provides a thin film transistor structure in which at least a trench is formed in an insulating polymer film formed on a substrate. In the thin film transistor structure, a trench formed in the insulating polymer film accommodates a gate wiring constituted of a plurality of conductive layers. Provided also are a method of manufacturing the thin film transistor structure, and a display device including a thin film transistor array composed of the thin film transistors constituted as described above.

The thin film transistor includes an active layer formed on an insulating substrate, a plurality of insulating layers formed oppositely to each other with the active layer interposed therebetween, a first gate electrode and a second gate electrode formed adjacently to the insulating layers, respectively, and wiring connected to the first and second gate electrodes, respectively, the wiring controlling respective potentials of the first and second gate electrodes independently of each other. The area of the first gate electrode is different from the area of the second gate electrode, and current levels can be discretely controlled in at least four levels.

Accurate gradation display on an OLED display device is effectuated by reducing a kickback voltage based on parasitic capacitance of a switching TFT without increasing a capacitance of a capacitor which retains a voltage to be supplied to a driving TFT. A capacitor for maintaining on-and-off states of a driving TFT which drives an OLED is charged by a switching TFT. The capacitor is connected to a scan line, which drives a switching TFT located in a preceding stage in accordance with a scanning order. After being charged by the switching TFT, a reference potential on the capacitor is raised to compensate for a drop in a gate voltage of the driving TFT attributable to parasitic capacitance of the switching TFT, in accordance with a signal from the scan line.

An electrophoretic display is mounted on the surface of the housing of a notebook type personal computer. When an event that requires the user to operate a member occurs, the member and operation information corresponding to that event are searched for, and the searched-for operation information is displayed in a region of the electrophoretic display in the vicinity of the searched-for member. For example, when a termination switch is in a corner of the exterior surface of the cover, for a system termination event, information indicating that the termination switch should be operated is displayed in a region of the electrophoretic display in the vicinity of the termination switch.

Electronic apparatus and electronic apparatus information display method

A drive circuit is disclosed for a liquid crystal display apparatus of the active matrix type having a large number of gray levels that can be displayed. The drive circuit comprises a plurality of sections each including a sample-and-hold circuit 22. The sample-and-hold circuit 22 has a plurality of switches Sw 1 through Sw 4. To these switches are separately supplied different ramp signals Vr 1 through Vr 4 from a ramp generator circuit 24 shared by all the sections. These ramp signals have waveforms which respectively assume a plurality of different voltage levels and are shifted from each other by a predetermined voltage level. The decoder 21 selects one of the switches Sw 1 through Sw 4 and a specific one of the voltage levels in the ramp signal applied to that selected switch depending on the gray scale data in the latch 20. The output of the sample-and-hold circuit is transmitted to the data line 7a via a buffer 23.

Grains of a totally porous, hydroxyl group-containing, nonionic and hydrophilic synthetic cross-linked polymer having alcoholic hydroxyl and ether groups as main hydrophilic groups and having as a main skeleton a chemical structure including carbon atoms, hydrogen atoms and oxygen atoms bonded through single bonds, said synthetic polymer having a hydroxyl group density of 1 to 15 milliequivalents/g, a specific surface area of 5 to 1000 m.sup.2 /g and a water regain of 0.3 to 3.0 g/g. Such grains have been found to be a packing material or gel for high speed, aqueous gel permeation chromatography. The packing material of the present invention which comprises grains of a hydroxyl group-containing nonionic and hydrophilic synthetic cross-linked polymer has a chemical structure obtained by reacting a totally porous, hydroxyl group-containing, nonionic polymer with a polyfunctional substance capable of reacting with the hydroxyl groups of said polymer while forming cross-linking ether groups.

Hydrophilic packing material for chromatography

A process for manufacturing fibers by a wet spinning procedure from an anisotropic dope of a polymer having aromatic mononucleus or polynucleus divalent radicals in which the chain extending bonds from each aromatic nucleus are coaxial or parallel and oppositely directed and which are connected by at least one link selected from --NHCO--, --NHCOCONH-- and --CONHNHCO-- is provided. The filaments taken out from a coagulation bath are, without applying any substantial tension thereto, washed with water, dried and optionally heat-treated, on a conveyor. The resulting fibers possess moderate initial modulus and elongation as well as high tenacity.
