Provided are a sealing device that can be easily manufactured and achieve a reduction in friction and a method for manufacturing the sealing device. A sealing device is provided between a housing in which a plurality of opening portions are formed in a tubular inner peripheral surface and a rotor that is disposed in the housing and switches a flow path by rotating relative to the housing. The sealing device includes a sealing device main body that is disposed along the inner peripheral surface and includes a sliding member provided on an inner surface or an outer surface. The sealing device main body has a plurality of through-holes that communicate with each of the plurality of openings, and the sealing device main body is a strip plate-shaped member with a flat plate shape that is bent and deformed.

A marine propulsion device that reduces white smoke generated during starting includes an engine, a crankshaft, a tilt angle sensor, and an ECU. The tilt angle sensor is operable to detect a tilt state of the cylinder such that a first side portion thereof located on an opposite side from the crankshaft is lower than a second side portion thereof located on a same side as the crankshaft. The ECU is configured or programmed to execute a cranking control of a prolonged cranking time based on the tilt state of the cylinder and a stopped time of the engine.

An embodiment of a reagent container includes a bottle with a pipe to reduce the effects of reagent sloshing. The bottle has an elongated base and an opposed cover connected by side walls and an end wall. A flat platform surrounded by a raised rim lies in the base opposite an opening in the cover. A ribbed pipe frictionally fits within the bottle opening and may attach to the anchor region leaving vent passages around the pipe. The pipe includes an aperture adjacent to the anchor region and oriented toward the end wall so that sloshed fluid has only a small effect on the level of reagent in the pipe during transfers. Provided is a technique for fabricating a novel thin membrane with a starting material such as a biocompatible compound that is not easily processible into a membrane, particularly a technique for fabricating a novel thin membrane of a composition that is gradually polymerized from a membrane surface into the membrane in the cross sectional direction of the membrane, and having, for example, different structures on the front and back of the membrane. The technique includes the steps of preparing a solution of a starting material compound; forming a thin membrane of the solution on a base material surface; and forming the organic polymer thin membrane through a polymerization reaction caused by irradiating the exposed surface of the thin membrane with a plasma or an electron beam.
