An apparatus for measuring a propagation velocity of a pulse wave which is propagated through an artery of a living subject, the apparatus including an electrocardiographic-waveform detecting device which detects an electrocardiographic waveform from the subject, a pulse-wave sensor which is adapted to be worn on the subject and which detects the pulse wave from the subject, a time-difference determining device for determining a time difference between a first periodic point relating to the detected electrocardiographic waveform and a second periodic point relating to the detected pulse wave, and a propagation-velocity determining means for determining the propagation velocity of the pulse wave based on the determined time difference.

An apparatus for evaluating a peripheral blood flow of a living subject, including a reflection-type pulse wave detecting device including two pairs of light-emitting and light-receiving elements provided such that a distance between the light-emitting and light-receiving elements of one pair is different from that of the other pair; and a determining device for determining an attenuation coefficient of the light beam emitted by the light-emitting element of each pair, based on (a) an intensity of the light beam which is emitted by the light-emitting element of each pair and (b) an intensity of the light which has been emitted from the light-emitting element of each pair, reflected from skin of the subject, and subsequently received by the light-receiving element of each pair. The apparatus further includes an evaluating device for evaluating peripheral blood flow of the subject, based on a ratio of the attenuation coefficient of the light beam emitted by the light-emitting element of one pair to the attenuation coefficient of the light beam emitted by the light-emitting element of the other pair, and/or, a display which displays a change of the ratio of the attenuation coefficient of the light beam emitted by the light-emitting element of one pair to the attenuation coefficient of the light beam emitted by the light-emitting element of the other pair.

Reflecting-type oxymeter probe

A noninvasive oximeter sensor for controlling and optimizing the minimum detection depth in the tissue of a patient is disclosed. In general, a minimum detection depth of 0.35 mm in the skin is considered optimum. The reflectance oximeter sensor component configuration of the present invention achieves the minimum detection depth. The present invention offers a more accurate indication of blood oxygen saturation in a patient's arterial blood than was available from previous reflectance oximeter sensors.

A method and apparatus for efficiently coupling a transceiver to an AC power line transmission system. The preferred embodiment of the coupling system comprises a line coupling network and first and second filter ports. The first filter port is connected to a resonant circuit having bandpass filtering characteristics adapted to the specific needs of the transmitter portion of the transceiver. The second filter port is isolated from the low impedance of the AC power line and is connected to a high quality factor filter having bandpath filtering characteristics adapted to the specific needs of the receiver portion of the transceiver.
