A sheet sorter with a stapler includes a plurality of bins arranged in a vertical direction each of which receives a plurality of sheets discharged from an and forms thereon a stack of sheets. An indexer receives the sheets from the image recording apparatus and distributes the sheets to the respective bins through the sheet inlet ends thereof. A stapler is movable up and down along the array of the sheet inlet ends of the bins and in a direction of width of the sheets to staple the stack of sheets on each bin which has been ejected beyond the sheet inlet end of the bin by a predetermined length. A single reciprocal pusher member is actuated after completion of stapling by the stapler and pushes the stapled stack of sheets back to the bin. A centering mechanism moves the reciprocal pusher member to a position substantially opposed to the middle of the trailing edge of the stack of sheets before the reciprocal pusher member is actuated.

A sheet resident space is provided on an indexer of a sheet transfer system, and a controller stops the image recording apparatus upon detection of a sheet jam about the indexer and stops the sheet transfer system after keeping it operating for a predetermined time interval sufficient for the sheet transfer system to transfer all the sheets in the sheet transfer passage thereof to the sheet resident space.

An image processing apparatus furnished with an overhead projector has an image projecting function and an image-forming function. The image processing apparatus is designed to detect the movement of an original support table or a reflection-type focusing plate during projecting of an original. The result is that the original support table is free from being heated by the focusing plate and also that the focusing plate is free from any deviation of its axis of light, thus preventing the reflected light from striking on the eyes of the operator.

An image processing apparatus comprising: an input unit for inputting an image of an initial original; a support table on which the initial original is to be set, the support table being movably mounted along the input unit; a reflection-type focusing plate on which an OHP (overhead projector). original is to be set, the focusing plate being disposed along side the input unit; an image forming unit disposed under the focusing plate for forming on a sheet an image inputted from the input unit to provide an OHP original; and a projecting unit disposed above the focusing plate for projecting an image of the OHP original set on focusing plate.
