A resin composition capable of laser marking according to the present invention includes a polyolefin resin in combination with a laser-sensitive component such as a carbon black or metallic compound white pigment and a dispersing aid such as a higher fatty acid compound. The polyolefin resin includes, for example, a polypropylene. The resin composition may further include about 0.5 to 30 parts by weight of an elastomer relative to 100 parts by weight of the polyolefin resin. By irradiating an surface of a molded article obtained from the resin composition with a laser, a mark having a sharp and uniform contrast can be formed on the surface of the molded article.

A resin composition comprises a thermoplastic resin, a non-terpene-series higher fatty acid or a derivative thereof and a black pigment. As the higher fatty acid or derivative thereof, use can be made of, for example, a saturated higher fatty acid having about 12 to 30 carbon atoms or a metal salt thereof. As the thermoplastic resin, use can be made of, for example, an acrylic resin A and a styrenic resin B. As the black dye or pigment, use can be made of, for example, carbon black. The resin composition may contain a dye or pigment such as titanium oxide. A clearly defined white marking is developed on the above resin composition by laser irradiation.

Resin composition for white marking

A resin composition for a white marking, on which a white marking can be clearly developed by irradiation of laser beams, comprises an acrylic resin A, a styrenic resin B, and a black dye/pigment C. Use can be made of poly(methyl methacrylate) as the resin A, a rubber-modified styrenic resin such as an ABS resin as the resin B, and a carbon black as the black dye/pigment C. The proportion of the resin A to the resin B (the former/the latter, by weight) is about 1/99 to 99/1. The proportion of the black dye/pigment C is about 0.01 to 3 parts by weight relative to 100 parts by weight of the total amount of the resin A and the resin B. The resin composition may further comprise a white dye/pigment D such as titanium oxide in 0.01 to 10 parts by weight, relative to 100 parts by weight of the total amount of the resins A and B.

The present invention provide a flame-retardant resin composition having an extremely low adhesion to metals and excellent thermal stability and light resistance and free from the formation of black extraneous matter. A flame-retardant thermoplastic resin composition characterized by being prepared by incorporating 1 to 1,000 ppm of a basic inorganic compound (D) soluble in a solvent into a resin composition (C) composed of 60 to 98% by weight of a thermoplastic styrene resin (A) and 40 to 2% by weight of a halogenated epoxy flame-retardant (B) having a terminal epoxy group.

Disclosed are a lactone-modified polyvinyl alcohol and a process for the preparation thereof, a polymer composition, a permanently anti-electrostatic resin composition, a lactone-modified resin having hydroxyl groups, and a process for the preparation thereof. The lactone-modified polyvinyl alcohol can be used in wide fields owing to the capability of freely adjusting the water solubility, such as water-soluble, gradually water-soluble, low water-soluble, and water-insoluble by a degree modified by lactone compounds, and owing to possessing properties both of PVA and lactones. Furthermore, the lactone-modified polyvinyl alcohol has properties such as being plasticizers or softening agents, and as a result, there can be provided a polymer composition having excellent properties by mixing with a hydrophilic polymer or polar polymer. Still further, a blend resin composition in which a variety of resins are blended with the lactone-modified polyvinyl alcohol has an excellent permanently-anti-electrostatic property, and the resin composition having a permanently-anti-electrostatic property can be preferably employed as a variety of molded articles such as parts for electric appliances, textiles, films, etc.
