An acoustic communication system includes a first acoustic communication apparatus and a second acoustic communication apparatus. The first acoustic communication apparatus transmits a first acoustic wave to the second acoustic communication apparatus. The second acoustic communication apparatus transmits, as a response, a second acoustic wave to the first acoustic communication apparatus continuously in constant cycles until a next first acoustic wave is received. Each cycle includes a transmission period and a pause period. The first acoustic communication apparatus, which has received the second acoustic wave, determines a transmission timing that allows the next first acoustic wave to be received by the second acoustic communication apparatus based on a time period required from transmission of the first acoustic wave till reception of the second acoustic wave and the length of the transmission period, and transmits the next first acoustic wave to the second acoustic communication apparatus at the determined transmission timing.

In order to efficiently compensate for effects of the Doppler shift, a receiving device includes a Doppler estimator that estimates a Doppler-shift frequency fdc of a received signal. A multiplier and an LPF detect the received signal based on a carrier frequency fc of the received signal and the Doppler-shift frequency fdc estimated by the Doppler estimator. A timing corrector corrects a timing T for extracting symbols of the received signal after detection by the LPF so as to track the Doppler shift. A symbol extractor extracts received symbols from the received signal after detection by the LPF at a timing corrected by the timing corrector. An adaptive equalizer estimates and determines symbols from the received symbols extracted by the symbol extractor.

A method of manufacturing a low-phosphorus whey, the method including subjecting a raw whey liquid to a demineralization treatment using a nanofiltration method to obtain a low-chloride whey liquid in which the chloride content has been reduced to not more than 30 mmol per 100 g of solids, and passing the low-chloride whey liquid through an ion exchange resin to obtain an ion-exchanged whey liquid having a reduced phosphorus content, wherein the ion exchange resin is composed of an anion exchange resin, and at least an anion exchange resin in chloride form is used as the anion exchange resin. The method of manufacturing a low-phosphorus whey can reduce the phosphorus content within the whey while suppressing reduction in the calcium and magnesium content.

There is provided an information processing apparatus of a code-compressed image information for use in a facsimile apparatus or an electronic file. This apparatus comprises: an image memory to store the coded image data; a printer to print the image data; a counter to read out the data from the memory and to count the number of lines of the image data; and a controller to control the printer so as to allow the image data to be divided and printed in response to the count value of the counter. The size data of the image data is compared with the count value and when they coincide, the controller controls the printer. If the image data exceeds the line number of one standard scale recording sheet, the printer is controlled so as to divide and record the image data on two or more recording cut sheets.

An image processing system includes an image reader unit which reads an image so as to generate it as 4-bit data, and a communication unit for converting the 4-bit data into 6-bit data. The communication unit forms the 6-bit data in such a manner that an upper 2-bit component of the 4-bit data is added to the 4-bit data as a lower 2-bit component of the 6-bit data. The resultant 6-bit data is supplied to a binary printer and is subjected to halftone processing and printing. A gray level signal processing method determines whether an image signal derived from an original document belongs to the character image area which needs high resolution or the continuous-tone image area which needs gray level reproduction such as for photographs, and quantizes the signal in a quantization method suitable for the image area to which the signal belongs. The process comprises the steps: (a) picture image is divided into blocks each composed of m-by-n picture elements; (b) the maximum optical density level (P.sub.max) and the minimum optical density level (P.sub.min) are detected in each block; (c) the difference value (P.sub..DELTA. =.vertline.P.sub.max -P.sub.min .vertline.) between the maximum and minimum optical density levels is calculated; (d) the image area to which the block belongs is determined according to the difference value (P.sub..DELTA.); and (e) the optimum one of quantization processing methods is selected according to the result of the determination, and the optical density level of each picture element in the block is quantized in the selected processing quantization method. The method can be applied to the process of facsimile system including continuous-tone or halftone information or also to the process in a copy machine which reads and records a picture in units of picture elements.

Method and apparatus for gray level signal processing

Recording medium is disposed in a recording region defined between a pair of electrodes impressed with a signal voltage. Electroconductive toner is supplied between one surface of the recording medium and one of the electrodes and electroconductive material in the form of a powder or liquid is supplied between the other surface of the recording medium and the other electrode. By selectively applying the signal voltage the toner, recording medium and the electroconductive material are charged to selectively deposit the toner and the electroconductive material on the surfaces of the recording medium thus forming a toner image. After removing surplus toner, the toner image is fixed to obtain a permanent record.
