A small boat deck construction is shown providing an adjustable seat mounting device. One embodiment presents the arrangement where the seat may be raised to an elevated position or lowered to a retracted position to minimize the space the seat occupies over the floor area. Two other embodiments disclose a seat being pivoted into position from the boat fins.

A self-halt device for water-jet, power-driven water craft is disclosed, which includes a duct connected at a forward end thereof to the atmosphere and, at its opposite end, to a water passage defined in the rear bottom of the water craft in which a propeller is connected to an engine through a propeller shaft. A valve is installed in the duct, which closes or opens the duct in response to sensing the weight of a driver properly sitting in or standing on a driver seat mounted on top of the water craft deck. With the valve in its operating position where the duct is closed, the engine rotates the propeller in the water passage filled with water which is discharged in a jet from the stern. When the pressure is removed from the driver seat, as when the driver was inadvertently displaced from board, the valve is actuated to open the duct permitting atmospheric air into the water passage, so that engine rotates the propeller on air. Thus, the water craft is brought to a halt, without stopping the engine, within easy reach of the displaced user who can swim over and recapture the water craft.

This disclosure relates to a small craft comprising a hull, a control handle supported on the hull adjacent its bow for pivotal movement in a substantially vertical plane that includes the center line of the hull. The handle extends rearwardly over the hull and is adapted to be manually operated. A wing is connected to the handle so as to have an angle of attack which changes as the handle is pivoted.

This disclosure relates to a small boat construction such as a recreational water scooter type. The boat includes a hull, a control handle, and a pivot connecting the handle to the hull, the pivot enabling the handle to be pivoted between a lowered position, an upright position and intermediate positions. The boat further includes a mechanism connected between the handle and the hull adjacent the pivot, the mechanism including a resistance mechanism effective for resisting movement of the handle to the upright position, and apparatus for canceling the resistance mechanism.

This disclosure relates to an arrangement for returning a small boat from an overturned position to a normal upright position. The boat comprises a substantially enclosed room and a partition provided in the room adjacent the bottom of the craft to form in the room an upper compartment and a lower compartment under the upper compartment. The lower compartment is adapted to contain water, and the partition is adapted to substantially prevent the water from entering the upper compartment when the craft is overturned.

This disclosure relates to an arrangement for self-righting a water craft, such as water craft from an overturned position to a normal upright position. The craft comprises a substantially enclosed room and a reverse bilge well provided in both left and right side portions in an engine room.

This disclosure relates to a water craft or boat including an engine room for an engine. The room is closed except for an opening through which intake air moves into the room, whereby the engine is supplied with intake combustion air. An exhaust line also extends between the engine and the outside of the room. Cooling means is provided in the room to collect coolant discharged from the engine and to inject it into the exhaust line in the room, whereby the coolant is discharged out of the room together with exhaust gas from the engine. Fuse means is provided in the exhaust line in the room downstream from the location where the coolant is injected. The fuse means is heat fusible to thereby form an opening when the gas in the exhaust line exceeds a predetermined temperature, whereby exhaust gas enters the room through the opening. The exhaust gas is drawn into the engine intake, causing the engine to fail to operate or to falter.

A method of fitting a grip over a handle portion of a handlebar includes providing the grip with an integral lip directed radially inwardly along the entire front edge at the open end of the grip. The grip is fitted over the forward end portion of the handle portion to define a sealed chamber between the inner surface of the grip and the outer surface of the handle portion. Air is injected into the chamber to expand the grip which is then moved over the handle portion. Thereafter the air is withdrawn so that the grip contracts into intimate contact with the handle grip to be adhesively secured thereto.

This disclosure relates to a flexible bottom protector for a small boat including a bottom wall. The bottom wall has at least two laterally spaced grooves extending substantially longitudinally of the boat, and the protector comprises a portion which extends across the bottom wall and between the grooves. Side ridges are formed on the portion of the protector for engagement with the grooves, and the protector further has bow and stern ends secured to the boat.

This disclosure relates to a water-cooled engine for a boat, including apparatus to prevent the engine from overheating due to a shortage of coolant. The apparatus includes an air intake connected to supply fresh air to the engine, and an exhaust system connected to discharge exhaust gas from the engine. A duct is connected between the air intake and the exhaust system, and a normally closed valve is provided in the duct. A heat responsive device is provided on the engine to open the valve in response to a predetermined high temperature of the engine, whereby at least a portion of the exhaust gas is fed back through the duct to the air intake.
