The present invention is intended to, at the time of directly measuring a flow rate of exhaust gas flowing through an exhaust gas flow path and an air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas, and on the basis of the flow rate and air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas, calculating fuel consumption, reduce a measurement error of the fuel consumption. Also, the invention is a fuel consumption calculation unit that, with use of an exhaust gas flow rate obtained by a flow rate sensor provided in an exhaust gas flow path through which exhaust gas of an engine flows, and an air-fuel ratio obtained by an air-fuel ratio sensor provided in the exhaust gas flow path, calculates fuel consumption of the engine, and on the basis of the air-fuel ratio obtained by the air-fuel ratio sensor, changes a value of exhaust gas density used for the calculation of the fuel consumption.

Disclosed is a particulate matter measurement device that continuously measures changes in a mass of particulate matters contained in an exhaust gas under dynamic operating conditions. The device dilutes and separates the flow of exhaust gas while an engine is operating. The particulate matters contained in one of the exhaust gas streams are collected by a collection filter to measure the mass and the remainder is measured by a mass-related value measurement. Then, time series change data for the mass of the particulate matter are found based on correlations of the individual measured data. With this arrangement, the flow volume of the dilute exhaust gas that passes through the collection filter and the flow volume of the dilute exhaust gas that is introduced into the mass-related value measurement device are ensured by adjusting the flow volume of the diluting gas that dilutes the exhaust gas.

An exhaust gas analyzer includes a main flow path and at least one sub-flow path. Exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine is introduced to the main flow path; sub-flow paths are parallel to the main flow path. A vehicle-installed exhaust gas analyzing apparatus includes a nondispersive infrared (NDIR) type gas analyzer for continuously measuring concentration of hydrocarbon (HC) in an exhaust gas flowing through an exhaust pipe which is connected to an engine, an exhaust gas flowmeter for continuously measuring flow rate of the exhaust gas flowing through the exhaust pipe, and an operation processing device for processing outputs from the NDIR type gas analyzer and the exhaust gas flowmeter to continuously calculate mass of total hydrocarbon (THC) contained in the exhaust gas. The components are configured so at to be installable in vehicle. THC concentration is obtained by multiplying a measurement result obtained by the NDIR type analyzer by a predetermined conversion factor.
