In a bookbinding apparatus, an adhesive applying portion applies an adhesive to an end face of a sheet bundle allowed to stand in the substantially vertical direction, a storage portion that gathers and stores the sheet bundle which is applied with the adhesive and bound in the adhesive applying portion while letting the sheet bundle stand in the substantially vertical direction, transport means for conveying the sheet bundle while letting the sheet bundle stand in the substantially vertical direction from the adhesive applying portion to the storage portion along a substantially vertical transport path, and a cutting portion which is provided on the transport path between the adhesive applying portion and the storage portion, and which cuts an end face of the sheet bundle while letting the sheet bundle stand in the substantially vertical direction.

A bookmaking apparatus includes a first path to convey a sheet bundle, a second path to convey a cover sheet, a joining stage disposed at an intersection of the first path and the second path, a gripping conveyance device arranged for gripping and a conveyance device arranged at a downstream side of the joining stage for conveying out the cover sheet and sheet bundle. The gripping conveyance device includes clamping members to grip the sheet bundle and clamping control device for opening and closing the clamping members. The clamping control device operates the clamping members to grip a lower edge of the sheet bundle when joining the sheet bundle to the cover sheet, and the clamping members to retract to an upstream side of the first path and to grip the sheet bundle again when conveying the joined sheet bundle to the conveyance device.

First document/image data is printed onto a sequence of sheets that includes sheets of a given size, and sheet(s) of a size that in at least one dimension is larger than the sheets of the given size. At the same time the first document/image data is being printed, second document/image data, i.e., foldout data, is printed onto the outer margin, i.e., a foldout portion, of the sheet(s) of the larger size. The larger-size, foldout sheet(s) is then folded so as to be creased near its overlap with the given-size sheets, and is collated into the sequence of the given-size sheets to form a bundle that is then bound. Thereafter trimming to size the non-bound edge(s) of the bundle slices away the crease in the foldout sheet, leaving the foldout cut-away as an insert tucked into the booklet.

A bookmaking apparatus includes a first path to convey a sheet bundle, a second path intersecting the first path to convey a cover sheet, a joining stage disposed at an intersection of the first path and the second path, a gripping conveyance device arranged for gripping and conveying the sheet bundle along the first path, an adhesive application device for applying adhesive to a bottom side edge of the sheet bundle, a backup member arranged to support the cover sheet at the joining stage, and a folding conveyance device for folding and conveying the cover sheet and sheet bundle. After the cover sheet and the sheet bundle are adhered together and before the backup member retracts from the first path to a position outside the first path, the gripping conveyance device is retracted to separate a bottom edge of the sheet bundle from the backup member.

A bookmaking apparatus includes: a first path for horizontally conveying a sheet bundle; a second path for vertically conveying a cover sheet; a joining stage for joining the cover sheet and sheet bundle; a gripping conveyance device at an upstream side of the joining stage for gripping and conveying the sheet bundle along the first path; and a folding conveyance device arranged at a downstream side of the joining stage for folding and conveying out the cover sheet and sheet bundle. The gripping conveyance device includes opening and closing clamping members for gripping the sheet bundle and clamping control device for opening and closing the clamping members. The clamping control device operates to vary a gripping position of the sheet bundle by the clamping members when joining the sheet bundle to the cover sheet at the joining stage and when conveying the joined sheet bundle to the folding conveyance device.

A bookmaking apparatus creates a booklet by accurately positioning a sheet bundle of varied thickness and a cover sheet fed at cross-over directions. The bookmaking apparatus includes an intersecting first path and a second path, a sheet bundle conveyance device, a cover sheet conveyance device, a first and second path cross-over unit, and a joining stage. The cover sheet conveyance device includes a first aligning device for aligning a conveyance direction edge of the cover sheet and a second aligning device for positioning an edge at a direction intersecting the conveyance direction of the cover sheet.

Bookmaking apparatus and image forming apparatus equipped with the same

A sheet bundle conveyance apparatus includes a tray arranged substantially horizontally below a discharge outlet of an image forming apparatus. The tray, including a drive device for lowering the tray to a sheet configuration position, is configured to rise and lower a predetermined distance between a sheet stacking position and a sheet conveyance position below the sheet stacking position. The apparatus further includes a gripping conveyance device configured to convey a sheet bundle received from the tray to a finishing device at a substantially vertical posture and turned a predetermined angle.

Sheet bundle conveyance apparatus

In an automatic document feeder for use in an image forming device such as copy machine and facsimile machine: a document shunting path for temporarily shunting a document is provided at an upstream side of a document reading portion; in a different-size mixed mode where different sizes of documents are placed in a mixed manner, the leading edge and rear edge of the document are detected by a sensor during conveyance of the document in the direction toward the document reading portion, so that the length of the document is detected; thereafter the document is conveyed in the reverse direction so that the rear edge of the document is shunted into the document shunting path; and thereafter the document is again conveyed in the forward direction to conduct reading. Thus, it becomes unnecessary to provide a longer conveyance path for detecting the length of the documents, so that the size of the feeder itself can be reduced.

Automatic document feeder having a document shunting path

The invention provides an image reader provided with an automatic document feeder which has a switchback path and can perform a both-faces processing operation, and which makes it possible to simplify the control of a switchback operation and handle a long-sized document sheet without making the diameter of a feed roller large and making the switchback path unnecessarily long. An automatic document feeder of the invention comprises a feed path for feeding a document sheet drawn out from a paper feed stacker to an image reading portion facing a feed roller, a switchback path c for making a document sheet which has been processed at the image reading portion switchback, a pair of switchback rollers which are provided so as to make a document sheet switchback in the switchback path and are able to turn forward and backward, and a paper discharge path for discharging a document sheet being in the switchback path onto a paper discharge stacker. Here, the switchback path c is provided in a casing below the paper discharge stacker and the casing has an opening formed in it so that the fore end of a document sheet guided into the switchback path projects from the casing. Further, the pair of switchback rollers are disposed at the downstream side in the switchback path so that the fore end and the rear end of a document made to switchback do not overlap each other through the feed roller.
