A polyester film made from two kinds of polyester resins and having a specific DSC (and a specific glass transition point) is provided, (i) which is superior in mechanical property, capable of thermocompression bonding with a metal sheet, despite a high degree of crystallization of the film, reduces quality change of plastic film laminated on the metal sheet even if faced with variation of conditions of thermocompression bonding with the metal sheet, and which is capable of thermocompression bonding even at a relatively low temperature, (ii) which is superior in formability, (iii) which is superior in flavoring property and impact resistance, and which obliterates occurrence of whitening or delamination of the film, or microcracks on the film, even if the film in the metal laminated sheet obtained by thermocompression bonding of the film on the metal sheet or on the surface of a metal can obtained by subjecting the metal laminated sheet to various form processings is crystallized, and (iv) which satisfies productivity at an industrial scale.

A heat-shrinkable resin film which has heat shrinkage in the maximum shrinkage direction of 20% or higher when a 10 cm&#xd7;10 cm square sample cut out thereof is immersed in hot water at 85&#xb0; C. for 10 seconds, pulled out, subsequently immersed in water at 25&#xb0; C. for 10 seconds, and then pulled out, characterized in that a content of nitrogen atoms in a surface of the film is 0.1% to 3.0% and the surface of the film has wet tension of 36 mN/m or higher; and a film roll obtained by winding up the heat-shrinkable resin film characterized in that when the rolled film is sampled at a first sampling part located up to 2 m apart from the end of the rolled film and at other sampling parts located after the first sampling part at intervals of about 100 m and an average content of nitrogen atoms of each sample is calculated, then the content of nitrogen atoms of each sample is within the &#xb1;0.8% range based on the above average content of nitrogen atoms.

Thermoplastic resin film and process for producing the same

A polyester film which shows, upon preparation of a film-laminated metal plate by laminating the film of one side of the metal plate made of a tin free steel, a coefficient of kinetic friction at 80 degrees Celsius at the surface thereof of not more than 0.45 and an ethylene terephthalate cyclic trimer content of not more than 0.7 wt %, and a dimensional change of not more than 2.0% after a heat treatment at 210 degrees Celsius for 2 minutes of the film laminated metal plate. This polyester film is superior in heat resistance, barrier property and corrosion resistance, and is preferably used as a material forming a metal container for food.

Heat-shrinkable polyester films, each having a heat shrinkability of 30% or higher after treatment in hot water at 85&deg; C. for 10 seconds in the main shrinkage direction of the film, and 10% or lower after treatment in hot water at 85&deg; C. for 10 seconds in a direction perpendicular to the main shrinkage direction of the film, the resistance to tear propagation in the direction perpendicular to the main shrinkage direction after the film has been shrunk at 10% in the main shrinkage direction of the film being 1500 mN or smaller, exhibit excellent shrinkage finish with only rare occurrence of wrinkles, shrinkage spots and strains by shrinkage and have excellent cut properties along perforations; therefore, these films are suitable for full labels on bottles, particularly for full labels on PET bottles.

Heat-shrinkable polyester films, each having a heat shrinkability of 5-60% after treatment in hot water at 70&deg; C. for 5 seconds and 65-95% after treatment in hot water at 85&deg; C. for 5 seconds, both in the main shrinkage direction of the film, and 10% or lower after treatment in hot water at 85&deg; C. for 5 seconds in a direction perpendicular to the main shrinkage direction of the film, the heat-shrinkage stress in the main shrinkage direction of the film being 13 MPa or smaller, and the film haze being lower than 10%, exhibits excellent shrinkage finish in appearance with only rare occurrence of wrinkles, shrinkage spots and strains by shrinkage; therefore, these films are suitable for full labels on bottles, particularly for full labels on PET bottles.

Heat-shrinkable polyester films and labels using the same

The present invention provides a white biaxially oriented polyester film having a two-layer structure of layer A/layer B, wherein the layer A contains a polyester having a melting point of 240&deg; C.-260&deg; C. and containing titanium dioxide in a proportion of 5-30 wt %, the layer B contains a polyester having a melting point of 210&deg; C.-235&deg; C., and the film shows a dimensional change of not more than 2%, which is obtained by thermally adhering a layer B side of the film to a metal plate to give a laminate, which is heat-treated at 210&deg; C. for 2 minutes, and subjecting the film after the treatment to the measurement, a film-laminated metal plate using the polyester film and a metal container obtained by forming this film-laminated metal plate. The polyester film of the present invention has superior heat resistance and is capable of stably covering the surface of a metal plate even after a heat treatment during a can forming process and the like.

Heat-shrinkable thermoplastic resin films suitable for use as labels on the bottles, particularly as full labels on the PET bottles, wherein the heat shrinkability in the main shrinkage direction of the film is 5% to 60% after treatment in hot water at 70&deg; C. for 5 seconds and 67% or higher after treatment in hot water at 85&deg; C. for 5 seconds and the heat shrinkability in a direction perpendicular to the main shrinkage direction of the film is 10% or lower after treatment in hot water at 85&deg; C. for 5 seconds. When used as full labels on the bottles, these films can have good shrinkage finish because they cause only rare occurrence of wrinkles, shrinkage spots, and strains during heat shrinkage, and they are therefore extremely useful as full labels.

Heat-shrinkable thermoplastic resin films

Layered heat-shrinkable films disclosed herein are suitable for labels on PET bottles requiring label fitting and heat shrinkage at a high speed, which film has at least three layers, that is, both outer layers and an intermediate layer, wherein the heat shrinkability in the main shrinkage direction of the film is 20% or higher after treatment in hot water at 70&deg; C. for 5 seconds and 35% to 55% after treatment in hot water at 75&deg; C. for 5 seconds and 50% to 60% after treatment in hot water at 80&deg; C. for 5 seconds, and the compressive strength of a label formed from the film meets the following formula (1): Y>X where Y is compressive strength (mN) and X is film thickness (&mgr;m).

Layered heat-shrinkable films and labels for bottles

Heat-shrinkable polyester films, each having: a heat shrinkability of 30-60% after treatment in hot water at 70&deg; C. for 5 seconds and of 65% or higher after treatment in hot water at 85&deg; C. for 5 seconds, both in the main shrinkage direction, and of 10% or lower after treatment in hot water at 85&deg; C. for 5 seconds in a direction perpendicular to the main shrinkage direction; a heat shrinkability after storage at 25&deg; C. for one month of 25% or higher after treatment in hot water at 70&deg; C. for 5 seconds in the main shrinkage direction; and a thickness distribution of 6% or lower, exhibit, when used for full labels on bottles, good shrinkage finish involving only rare occurrence of wrinkles, shrinkage spots, strains and shrinkage failure during heat shrinkage, and exhibit a low decrease in low temperature shrinkability after a lapse of time.

A heat-shrinkable polyester film having a shrinkability in hot water (hereinafter referred to as a hot-water shrinkability) at 95&deg; C. for 10 seconds ranging from 30% to 50% in at least one direction (hereinafter referred to as direction (A)) and ranging from 25% to 45% in a direction (hereinafter referred to as direction (B)) perpendicular to said at least one direction, wherein a difference &Dgr;HS between the hot-water shrinkability in direction (A) and the hot-water shrinkability in direction (B) (ie., &Dgr;HS&equals;&verbar;hot-water shrinkability in direction (A)&mdash;hot-water shrinkability in direction (B)&verbar;) is 10% or smaller, is useful as a wrapping material, mainly as a covering material for the openings of vessels used for packing noodles, puddings, salads, and other foods.

Heat-shrinkable polyester films which exhibit a total light transmittance of 80% to 90% and a haze of 15% to 60%, both in a thickness of 50 &mgr;m and further exhibit a 45-degrees specular gloss of 70% or lower, so that they have frosted glass appearances without being printed or processed. Heat-shrinkable polyester films which exhibit a light transmittance of 0% to 20% at a wavelength of 380 nm and of 0% to 60% at a wavelength of 400 nm and further exhibit a haze of 15% or lower, so that they can prevent the contents of a vessel fitted therewith from being deteriorated by ultraviolet light and they have good shrinkage finish and particularly cause only rare occurrence of wrinkles, shrinkage spots, or other defects. These films are suitable for labels, particularly for labels of great product value.

A polyester laminate film comprising plural polyester layers, which comprises one surface layer comprising a polyester and a lubricant having an average particle size of 1-3 &mgr;m in a proportion of 1-5 wt % and the other surface layer comprising a polyester wherein 5-15 mol % of the entire acid component is a dimer acid component, the polyester laminate film having a crystallization peak temperature of 80-120&deg; C. under temperature rise of the On The polyester laminate film of the present invention has a lower crystallization peak temperature when the film is under temperature rise, as compared to conventional polyethylene terephthalate. As a consequence, the film is free of whitening upon retorting, even after the film was subjected to remelting treatment and rapid cooling for noncystallization and unorienting. Therefore, the film serves well as a laminate film for food containers and beverage cans that undergo retort sterilization. Inasmuch as the polyester layer on one surface contains a large amount of a lubricant and has releasing property, the film serves well as a laminate film for a metal plate, which is required to have releasing property from a mold during manufacture of containers such as a two-piece can. The polyester layer on the other surface contains a large amount of dimer acid and the film is superior in impact resistance. Hence, the film serves well as a laminate film for a metal container which is susceptible to damage due to impact during distribution process.
