The external device includes a mounting device, a mass variation device, and a damper. The mounting device is fixed to the fuselage and disposed so as to project in a lateral direction of the fuselage. The mass variation device is mounted on the mounting device and has mass that varies as the mass variation device is used. The damper couples the fuselage to the mounting device and supports the mounting device. The damper includes a stiffness variable mechanism configured to change stiffness of the damper in response to variation in the mass of the mass variation device.

To suppress light leakage at the time of dark state, and to provide a liquid crystal display device whose electrodes in the reflection areas can be formed with high precision. The liquid crystal display device has a reflection area within a pixel unit by corresponding at least to a reflection plate forming part, and the reflection area is driven with a lateral electric field mode and normally-white. A driving electrode for forming an electric field to a liquid crystal layer of the reflection area is formed on the reflection plate via an insulating film by using a non-transparent electric conductor.

Liquid crystal display device

An IPS-mode transflective LCD device includes an array of pixels each including a reflective region and a transmissive region. The reflective region operates in a normally-white mode, and the transmissive region operates in a normally-black mode. A first potential is applied to a liquid crystal layer in the reflective region, and a second potential is applied to the liquid crystal layer in the transmissive region. The first and second potential have therebetween an opposite magnitude relationship in each of the pixels.

Methods for driving a transflective liquid crystal display device

A transflective LCD unit includes a liquid crystal (LC) layer: first and second substrates sandwiching therebetween the LC layer to define an array of pixels each including a reflective area and a transmissive area; an electrode assembly for driving the LC layer such that the LC layer in the reflective area is driven in a longitudinal-electric-field mode and the LC layer in the transmissive area is driven in a lateral-electric-field mode; and a reverse-tilt control member for controlling a reverse tilt area in which a reverse tilt of LC molecules occurs near the boundary between the reflective area and the transmissive area.

Transflective LCD unit

An IPS-mode transflective LCD device includes an array of pixels each including a reflective region and a transmissive region. A first pixel electrode and a first common electrode are formed in the reflective region, and a second pixel electrode and a second common electrode are formed in the transmissive region. The first and second pixel electrodes receive a common pixel signal. The first common electrode receives a first common signal which is common among the reflective regions of a plurality of pixels, and the second common electrode receives a second common signal which is common among the transmissive regions of the plurality of pixels.

Transflective liquid crystal display device including transmissive and reflective areas in each pixel

A LCD device has a LC layer sandwiched between a TFT substrate and a counter substrate, first and second polarizing films, a first &#x3bb;/2 film between the first polarizing film and the counter substrate, and a second &#x3bb;/2 film between the second polarizing film and the TFT substrate. Angle &#x3b8;between the direction of the optical axis of the LC layer and the polarized direction of the light entering the LC layer satisfies the relationship: 0 degree&#x3c;&#x3b8;&#x3c;45 degrees. The resultant LCD device has lower leakage light and coloring.

An LCD device includes a reflective area in each pixel. A reflection film having a convex-concave surface is provided in the reflective area, film in cross section configuration is formed. Each pixel includes a pixel electrode and a common electrode for applying a lateral electric field on a LC layer. The inclination angle of the reflection film has an inclination angle distribution, wherein the angle component in an area corresponding to the electrodes has a lower angle distribution than the angle components in an area corresponding to a gap between adjacent two of the electrodes.
