The main object of the invention is to provide an electromagnetic wave resonator making use of surface waves: an electromagnetic wave resonator structure capable of being achieved with existing technologies yet without much difficulty and applying voltage to a positive dielectric area, thereby overcoming a variety of problems arising from the fact that only thermal excitation is available. The contact structure of negative dielectric/positive dielectric/negative dielectric necessary for this type of electromagnetic wave resonator is provided on the surface of the negative dielectric materialjust as the coaxial structure of the positive dielectric thin filmextending in the Y-axis direction and the negative dielectric materialreceived therein is cut in the axial direction. This makes sure both negative dielectric materialsandwith the positive dielectric thin filmsandwiched between them are electrically insulated so that voltage can be applied to the positive dielectric thin film, and ensures that an area provided in the negative dielectric materialto receive the positive dielectric thin filmhas an aspect ratio D/Pof about 1.9, a figure well achievable in the state of the art.

Electromagnetic wave resonator and its fabrication process as well as electromagnetic wave generator

A principle of blazing that is effective even in the resonance domain. Light () is made incident on a diffraction grating so that specular resonance can occur in two or more light scattering units including, for example, bispheres (,;,), and by the specular resonance, a fraction of diffracted lightthat is diffracted by the first layer () and the second layer () is selectively enhanced. It also becomes possible to tune a blazing condition by a control signal from outside.

Light diffraction method and diffraction device, diffraction grating used for them, and position encoder device

A photonic crystal having a structure of which the refractive index changes with a periodicity defined in a polar coordinate system is disclosed. And an optical waveguide element comprising said photonic crystal, optical inlet and outlet regions on the surface of said photonic crystal, and a defect region of incomplete photonic crystal periodicity formed within said photonic crystal is disclosed. The defect region functions as an optical waveguide path by guiding from the inlet region to the outlet region an optical signal incapable of propagating through the photonic band gap of the photonic crystal.
