In a flat configuration color display CRT in which one or more rows of electron beams are generated with the electron beams passing through respective apertures in successively disposed electrodes including horizontal deflection electrodes, apertures formed in an electrode positioned adjacent to the horizontal deflection electrodes have a central axis position displacement with respect to corresponding apertures of the horizontal deflection electrodes. A trajectory correction voltage which varies during each vertical scanning interval is applied to that adjacent electrode to execute dynamic adjustment of electron beam landing positions and thereby correct for an angular positioning error between a fluorescent layer pattern of the CRT and the electrode structure.

Flat configuration image display apparatus

A flat configuration CRT having positioned behind one or more line cathodes an array of control electrodes for electron beam modulation and shield electrodes for mutually shielding the control electrodes, in which the shield electrodes are connected as a plurality of electrically separate blocks. DC voltages applied to the respective blocks are adjusted such as to establish identical levels of beam current for electron beams which are generated by emission from the line cathodes, thereby enabling accuracy requirements for spacing between these electrodes and the line cathodes to be substantially reduced.

Flat configuration cathode ray tube

A flat panel type display provided with a screen, control electrodes divided in a horizontal direction of the screen, light emitting fluorescent material formed on the control electrodes, a mesh-like electrode, scanning electrodes each divided in a vertical direction of the screen and facing the mesh-like electrode, an electron source for generating electron beams in the horizontal direction of the screen and deflection unit for deflecting the beams in the vertical direction. The deflection unit is provided with a signal supply device for applying first and second voltage levels to each scanning electrode. The first voltage level is at a level similar to that applied to the control or mesh-like electrode. The second voltage level is substantially less than the first voltage level. The second voltage level is sequentially applied to each scanning electrode during a vertical scan, for a fixed time period at least as long as the time required for vertically scanning a distance in which a path of an electron reflected from a position of beam incidence with the fluorescent material becomes substantially parallel to the scanning electrodes. The time period between the start of each sequential application of the second voltage level to each successive scanning electrode is a predetermined amount which differs from the fixed time period of the second voltage level.

Flat panel type display and method for driving the display

An image display apparatus includes a flat configuration CRT which is provided with a second set of horizontal deflection electrodes in addition to the main horizontal deflection electrodes. A sawtooth waveform correction deflection voltage is applied to the second electrodes such as to slow the rate of electron beam scanning each time a portion of a fluorescent layer pattern of the screen is scanned, thereby increasing display brightness, while in addition the correction deflection voltage and the electron beam modulation signals are phase shifted by a mutually identical amount once in each scan line such as to compensate for a position deviation between the main horizontal deflection electrodes and the fluorescent layer pattern.

Flat configuration color CRT display apparatus with scanning correction

A flat configuration CRT has a plurality of line cathodes arrayed with a predetermined pitch, a focus electrode section for focusing respective electron beams which are emitted for the line cathodes, and pairs of deflection plates having opposed deflection electrodes for executing deflection of the focussed electron beams, the deflection electrodes of each deflection plate being divided into at least two parts, and an image display section upon which the electron beams are incident. The length of a region in which deflection is executed by the deflection electrodes is made no greaer than a value which is approximately three times the pitch of the line cathodes.

A flat CRT apparatus has a set of vertical scanning deflection electrodes arrayed down one flat inner face of the CRT, spaced apart from an opposing face having a photo-emissive layer formed thereon, and an electron gun for emitting a single flat electron beam or a row of narrow line electron beams into the space between the scanning electrodes and the photo-emissive layer. Vertical scanning of a raster display is executed by scanning voltages sucessively applied to the scanning electrodes, with the deflected electron beams thus obtained being then horizontally swept in common by a horizontal deflection electrode, so that each electron beam is utilized to display a large number of picture elements of each horizontal scanning line of the display picture.

Flat CRT display apparatus

A flat type cathode ray tube. Electrode beams are vertically emitted from electron beam emitting sources along vertical scanning electrodes which have a strip-shaped configuration in horizontal direction and are insulated from each other and lined up in the vertical direction. The beams turn at a predetermined position toward a phosphor screen for vertically scanning and are horizontally focussed and deflected onto the phosphor screen by horizontal focussing and deflection electrodes.

A drive method for a color CRT in which a point-sequential color video signal is produced to drive a modulation electrode of the CRT, in which an index signal is generated consisting of pulses at a frequency identical to a frequency of scanning successive screen phosphor color trios of the CRT, multi-phase index signals are derived from that index signal, and respective time differences between scanning timings of each color trio in each scan line and a specific index signal phase are successively measured, stored in memory, and subsequently read out to produce timing control signals for gating the color components of the point-sequential video signal. Requirements for timing accuracy and assembly precision of the CRT can thereby be substantially relaxed by comparison with a prior art single-phase index signal method.

In a flat-shaped display apparatus has a face plate, a rear plate, side plates, and necessary electrodes therein, a supporting plate and plural supporting rods which are connected to an edge of the supporting plate at intervals of a certain distance are provided between the face plate and the rear plate. The supporting rods are made of metal and all bonded parts are covered by guide plates so that no adhesive is exposed to the electron beams. Therefore, over-scanning of the electron beams can be made, without the electron beams impinging on the adhesive thereby enabling effective distortion compensation.

In a flat type cathode ray tube having one or plural parallel (vertical) line cathodes (10) and a plurality of scanning electrodes (12) consisting of insulated parallel (horizontal) metal strips, which are to be impressed with respective scanning pulses (FIG. 6, FIG. 21) to make vertical scanning of electron beams from the line cathodes: undesirable vibrations of the line cathode (10) are suppressed by touching wire-shaped dampers (28, 38A, 38B, 48, 64, 65) on the line cathode (10), and by selecting the frequency of the scanning pulses higher than natural vibration frequency of the line cathode (10).

A display device includes line cathodes. Separate first electrodes extend in rear of the line cathodes. A second electrode extends in front of the line cathodes and has apertures for guiding electron beams from the line cathodes. The apertures of the second electrode correspond to the separate first electrodes and the line cathodes. A third electrode deflects the electron beams. A screen is exposed to the electron beams. A vibration-preventing plate extends along the line cathodes and has apertures corresponding to the separate first electrodes and the line cathodes. The portions of the vibration-preventing plate between the apertures of the plate are in contact with the line cathodes.

In a magnetic head of perpendicular magnetization type having main and sub magnetic poles arranged at both sides of a recording medium, a nonmagnetic supporter holding a high permeability magnetic thin layer of the main magnetic pole is formed by a polycrystalline sintered body substantially composed of titanium carbide and alumina. This polycrystalline sintered product well matches with a recording medium having a cobalt-chromium alloy layer so that the recording medium does not wear for a long time of use, and therefore, so that the contact surface of the main magnetic pole is hardly damaged. The same sintered body may also be used for the sub magnetic pole arranged to be in contact with the recording medium. Some structural improvements are also provided so that undesirable influence due to an adhesive layer adjacent to the magnetic thin layer is removed. One or more additional thin layers may be provided for reducing crosstalk between adjacent tracks. A magnetically shielding block is provided to prevent undesirable influence caused by an external magnetic field.

A charged-particle beam electric field deflector includes plural (n) pairs or sets of facing deflection electrodes to accelerate and deflect the beam. Different d.c. acceleration voltages are superimposed on a common deflection voltage and applied to the electrode pairs so that electrode pair k is responsive to acceleration voltage k and the common voltage, where k is selectively each of 1 . . . n. The distance between each pair of facing electrodes is constant or increases along the beam path, while the length of each of the deflection electrodes has a given relationship as a function of the distance between the facing electrodes of each pair. The deflector is used in a flat CRT.

Charged particle beam deflector and flat CRT using the same

An electron beam detecting electrode is provided laterally outside an effective picture area, to detect a beam current amount and vertical position of the electron beam. An amount of the electron beam current and a position of the electron are controlled by utilizing an output signal of the electron beam detecting electrode, and a uniform brightness and a uniform distance between horizontal scanning lines are obtainable.
