A control device of a vehicle includes a controller. The vehicle includes an engine having an exhaust system including a combustion chamber and a catalyst, a motor able to operate drive wheels of the vehicle, and a battery which supplies driving power to the motor when the motor operates the drive wheels (motor assist operation), and is charged when the motor generates power (regenerative operation). During deceleration, the controller performs one of a first control which increases an engine resistance for a higher deceleration than requested, and performs the motor assist operation according to the engine resistance increase, when a battery state of charge (SOC) is a first given value or above; and a second control which controls a combustion state of the engine to raise a catalyst temperature, and performs the regenerative operation, when the battery SOC is a second given value below the first given value.

A smooth shift is achieved between an operating region in which a first turbocharger is mainly operated and an operating region in which a second turbocharger is mainly operated. A PCM controls a throttle valve to use a first supercharging region in which a gas flow through an exhaust bypass passage is reduced and a second supercharging region in which the gas flow through the exhaust bypass passage is promoted differently based on the operating state of an engine. In an early stage of a shift from the first supercharging region to the second supercharging region, the PCM executes bridge control to allow the flow velocity of exhaust gas flowing into a large turbine to be higher than at a point in time at which the shift starts.

The silence of a diesel engine is enhanced. A PCM detects an actual supercharging pressure of a gas, and controls an injection mode of a fuel through an injector, thereby executing main injection that is started near a compression top dead center or pilot injection that is executed prior to the main injection depending on an operating state of an engine. If the degree of opening of an accelerator pedal decreases during operation of a large turbocharger, and the actual supercharging pressure is equal to or higher than a predetermined value, the PCM executes cylinder pressure control that allows an interval between a start timing of the pilot injection and a start timing of the main injection to be broader than if the actual supercharging pressure is less than a predetermined value.

In an engine which includes an oxidation catalyst and an SCR catalyst in an exhaust passage, a first flow regulating control in which a control valve is controlled so as to decrease a flow rate of an exhaust gas which passes through the oxidation catalyst and the SCR catalyst is performed in a case where the oxidation catalyst is in a low temperature state at the time of performing deceleration fuel cut, and a second flow regulating control in which the control valve is controlled so as to increase the flow rate of the exhaust gas which passes through the oxidation catalyst and the SCR catalyst is performed in a case where the oxidation catalyst is in a temperature state higher than the low temperature state and the SCR catalyst is in a low temperature state at the time of performing the deceleration fuel cut.

A control system of an engine is provided, which includes a piston formed with a cavity and configured to reciprocate in a cylinder along a center axis of the cylinder, and a fuel injector disposed facing a top surface of the piston and configured to inject fuel along an injection axis. When the piston is located near a top dead center of compression stroke, the fuel injector performs a first injection so that the fuel flows from the fuel injector toward the cavity along the injection axis, collides with an inner surface of the cavity, then flows back toward the fuel injector along the inner surface of the cavity from a position offset from the injection axis. The fuel injector performs a second injection toward the cavity at a timing after the first injection and at which the fuel of the first injection flows back.

Method and system for controlling engine

An exhaust gas recirculation control device for an engine is provided. The device includes an EGR passage connecting an exhaust passage of the engine with an intake passage of the engine, an EGR amount adjustor for adjusting an EGR amount that is a recirculation amount of exhaust gas of the engine through the EGR passage, an adjustor controller for controlling the EGR adjustor to adjust the EGR amount, and a gear position detector for detecting a gear position of a transmission of a vehicle on which the engine is mounted. When the gear position detected by the gear position detector during an idle operation of the engine is a non-travel position, the adjustor controller performs an EGR amount increase control in which the EGR amount adjustor is controlled to increase the EGR amount to be higher than when the gear position is a travel position.

A geometric compression ratio in an engine main bodyis set to 15 or less. Injection control means (ECU) performs a main injection of injecting fuel near a compression top dead center, and a preceding injection prior to the main injection at a specific region of predetermined load within an operating region on a relatively low-speed side. The injection control means performs, as the preceding injection, a pilot injection of performing injection at a timing such that at least part of a fuel spray reaches outside a cavityon a top face of a piston, and a pre-injection of injecting fuel at a predetermined timing after the pilot injection, to suppress thereby ignition of the fuel injected by the pilot injection and shorten an ignition delay of the fuel injected by the main injection.

A diesel engine is provided, which includes an engine body to be supplied with fuel containing diesel fuel as its main component, a geometric compression ratio being set to 15:1 or below, a fuel injection valve arranged in the engine body so as to be oriented toward a cylinder of the engine body and for directly injecting the fuel into the cylinder, and a control module for controlling a mode of injecting the fuel into the cylinder through the fuel injection valve. The control module performs a main injection where the fuel is injected to cause a main combustion mainly including a diffusion combustion and performs a plurality of pre-stage injections where the fuel is injected prior to the main injection to cause a pre-stage combustion prior to the main combustion. The control module controls the injection mode of the injections to adjust a heat release rate.

A front body construction of a motor vehicle includes a lower dash panel for separating an engine compartment and a cabin and a cowl portion provided on the lower dash panel such that a lower end of a windshield is supported at an upper portion of the cowl portion. The cowl portion includes an upper dash panel attached to an upper end portion of the lower dash panel so as to form a bottom wall of the cowl portion and a front cowl panel attached to an upper face of the upper dash panel so as to form a front wall of the cowl portion. The front cowl panel has, in a lateral direction of a vehicle body, opposite sides and a central portion such that space for an auxiliary unit is provided not only forwards of the front cowl panel in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle body, but also on at least one of the opposite sides of the front cowl panel. At least one of the opposite sides of the front cowl panel is disposed rearwards of the central portion of the front cowl panel in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body, and the lower end of the front cowl panel is disposed, on at least one of the opposite sides of the front cowl panel, at a location identical with that of or rearwards of an upper end of the lower dash panel in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body.
