A disc cartridge for housing a magnetic disc of an increased recording capacity includes recording/reproducing apertures formed in the main cartridge body portion for exposing a portion of a signal recording area of the disc-shaped recording medium to outside across the inner and outer rims of the disc-shaped recording medium. The disc cartridge also includes a shutter member having shutter portions for opening/closing the recording/reproducing apertures and supporting portions provided on both sides of the direction of movement of the shutter portions and supported for movement by the main cartridge body portion and movement guide portions provided on both sides along the width-wise direction of the recording/reproducing apertures which is parallel to the movement direction of the shutter member. The supporting portions are engaged with the movement guide portion for movement. The recording/reproducing apertures are located so that one opening end facing the outer rim of the disc-shaped recording medium is located between the movement guide portions and a lateral side of the main cartridge body portion. The supporting portions of the shutter member are formed with cut-outs adapted for opening the recording/reproducing apertures as far as one opening edges of the apertures when the shutter member has been moved to a position of opening the recording/reproducing apertures.

A disc cartridge holding a flexible magnetic disc with a recording capacity exceeding 100 MB. The disc cartridge includes a main cartridge body portion holding a disc-shaped recording medium of an increased capacity, first and second positioning reference holes formed at left and right corners in the lower surface of the main cartridge body portion encircled by the front wall section in the direction of insertion of the main cartridge body portion into a disc drive device, left and right sidewall sections extending perpendicular to the front wall section and the outer rim of the disc-shaped recording medium housed in the main cartridge body portion. The disc cartridge includes a first capacity discriminating hole and a mistaken recording inhibiting unit provided at left and right corners encircled by the back side wall section of the main cartridge body portion, left and right sidewall sections extending perpendicular to the back side wall section and the outer rim of the disc-shaped recording medium housed in the main cartridge body portion and a second capacity discriminating hole towards the outer rim of the disc-shaped recording medium housed in the main cartridge body portion in proximity to the first positioning reference hole. The portions detected by the detection switches are arranged distributed on the lower surface of the main cartridge body portion in order to detect reliably the state of the disc cartridges such as the sorts of the magnetic discs.

Assembly for discrimination disc storage capacity in a disc cartridge

A center core for a disc-shaped recording medium. The center core comprises a flange section for supporting the disc-shaped recording medium. A generally cylindrical section having a bottom wall is formed integral with and located radially inward of the flange section. A plurality of supportable standard sections are formed at the bottom wall of the cylindrical section by making a press working on the bottom wall of the cylindrical section in a manner to project toward the lower surface side of the center core. The supportable standard sections define a supportable surface through which the center core is placed on a turn table of a disc drive device.

Center core for disc-shaped recording medium and process of producing same

A disc cartridge mounted for movement on a main cartridge body unit housing a magnetic disc, in which the disc cartridge has a shutter member of a U-shaped cross-section for opening/closing a recording/reproducing aperture provided in the main cartridge body unit. The shutter member is provided with first and second guide pieces engaging in the movement guide groove provided in the main cartridge body unit. On a lateral side of the main cartridge body unit,, there are formed first and second inclined guide portions for guiding in the movement guide groove the first and second pieces provided in the shutter member. One of the first and second guide pieces is of a height larger than the other guide piece so that, when the shutter member is mounted on the main cartridge body unit, the guide pieces are prevented from being abutted against the lateral side of the main cartridge body unit to suppress generation of chips from the main cartridge body unit.

A disk cartridge comprising a center core at the central portion thereof with which it is chucked onto a rotary drive, a disk to be mounted onto the rotary drive and rotated at a rotation speed of at least 3,000 rpm, and a cartridge body for rotatably accommodating the disk. The cartridge body has a center opening in the central part of its lower surface through which the center core of the disk is exposed outside, a pair of recording/reproducing openings in opposing positions of the upper and lower surfaces of the cartridge body through which at least a part of the signal recording area of the disk is exposed outside in a radial direction, and a partition wall formed between the upper and lower surfaces of the cartridge body to enclose the almost entire outer periphery of the disk. The partition wall has a notch at a position downstream, in the disk rotation direction, of the recording/reproducing openings, which notch communicates through an exhaust passage to an exhaust opening formed in the front wall of the cartridge body.

Disk cartridge

A disc cartridge housing a magnetic disc includes an engagement projection formed in the vicinity of a corner of one of the upper and lower cartridge halves so that the distal end of the engagement projection is engaged with the other cartridge half, an insertion hole formed in the other cartridge half so as to be passed through by the engagement projection of the one of the upper and lower cartridge halves and an abutment protuberantly formed around the engagement projection for compressing against the rim portion of the insertion hole formed in the other cartridge half. The engagement projection protruded from the insertion hole has its distal end heated and swollen out by a non-vibration type heating system to form a retainer to unify the upper and lower cartridge halves to complete a main cartridge body portion.

Assembly for connecting the upper and lower cartridge halves of a disc cartridge

A cartridge holder is shown which comprises a back portion which has at an inner surface a plurality of cartridge gripping parts by which one sides of cartridges are gripped, a pair of lid portions which are pivotally connected to opposed sides of the back portion through respective major hinge portions; catching and caught portions which are provided at free ends of the lid portions and lock the lid portions when the lid portions are pivoted toward their closed position; and a plurality of extra hinge portions which are defined by the back portion. By roundly flexing the back portion at the major hinge portions, the cartridge gripping parts, that is, the cartridges gripped by these cartridge gripping parts are opened like a fan. Thus, upper ends of the cartridges are separated thereby facilitating handling of the upper ends of the cartridges by the fingers of a user. In order to prevent a swell-out phenomenon of the back portion which would occur when the back portion is roundly flexed, there is provided a swell-out phenomenon suppressing means. In order to prevent removal of the cartridges from the cartridge gripping parts which would occur when vibration and shock are applied thereto under conveying of the holder, there is provided a cartridge retaining rib.

Cartridge holder

A disc cartridge includes a shell for storage of a recording medium taken in the form of a disc having a center core formed at the center thereof. The disc has signal recording portions formed around the center core on the opposite surfaces thereof. The shell has opposite inner surfaces facing to each other to define a disc receipt space containing the disc supported for rotation therein between the inner surfaces. The shell has a chucking hole through which the center core of the disc is exposed and read-write windows through which the respective signal recording portions are exposed. A shutter is mounted for sliding movement on the shell to open and close the read-write windows. A pair of slippery films are formed on the respective inner surfaces.
