A catalyst unit is constructed by alternately stacking rectangular catalyst elements (1) formed by cutting catalyst support plates coated with a catalytic material and having ribs (2) inclined at 45.degree. to one specified side edge (1a) of each thereof, and those turned upside down in a case, and the catalyst unit is disposed in a gas passage with the ribs (2) of the catalyst elements (1) inclined at an angle greater than 0.degree. and smaller than 90.degree. to the direction of the gas flow (6). When the catalyst unit comprising the catalyst elements (1) coated with a denitrating catalyst is placed in the gas passage, the ribs (2) of the catalyst elements (1) blocks the gas flow (6) and generate turbulent currents on the downstream side thereof to promote the contact of ammonia and NOx contained in the exhaust gas with the catalyst. When the gas flow (6) is disturbed, the thickness of laminar films covering the surface of the catalyst elements (1) is reduced, so that ammonia and NOx can be easily diffused and the catalytic activity can be enhanced. The catalyst elements exhibits their catalytic abilities effectively without entailing significant pressure loss in the gas flow.

Wet-type flue gas desulfurization plant

An apparatus for wet process exhaust gas desulfurization including a spraying portion for spreading absorbent slurry including calcium compound, an absorbing tower for bringing the absorbent slurry sprayed from the spraying portion into contact with exhaust gas including sulfur oxides from opposite directions so as to absorb the sulfur oxides in the exhaust gas into the absorbent slurry, a slurry tank disposed below the absorbing tower for receiving the absorbent slurry from the absorbing tower, a plurality of stirrers for stirring each stirrer being an axial flow type agitator having a propeller, and circular system for circulating the absorbent slurry from the slurry tank to the spraying portion. The apparatus further includes a plurality of nozzles for feeding oxidizer gas including oxygen into the absorbent slurry from a backside of each propeller towards a periphery thereof uniformly with respect to a circumferential direction, thereby bubbling the oxidizer gas finely around each propeller.

Wet-type exhaust gas desulfurizing apparatus

The liquid crystal device has a pair of flat glass substrates, a pair of dielectric multilayer film mirror, a plurality of transparent electrodes arranged in a matrix, a plurality of minute insulating films formed on inner face of the glass substrates, and a liquid crystal layer. A pair of dielectric multilayer film mirror constitute a Fabry-Perot etalon via the liquid crystal layer and enhance a contrast ratio. The minute insulating films are formed by physical vapor deposition and attain a uniform thickness, so that a liquid crystal device having a uniform cell gap is obtained.

An apparatus for treating a flue gas provided with a heater and an apparatus for removing NOx on the downstream side of an apparatus for removing SOx, where a heat exchanger for heat exchanging a treated gas from the apparatus for removing NOx with conbustion air is provided on the downstream side of the apparatus for removing NOx, whereby the waste heat of the treated gas can be efficiently utilized and the heat required for heating the flue gas can be reduced.

Apparatus for treating flue gas

A starting material composed of calcium carbonate is dissolved in a nitrate aqueous solution containing either Ca(NO.sub.3).sub.2 or NH.sub.4 NO.sub.3 under application of heat and pressure. The starting material is hydrothermally synthesized within the nitrate aqueous solution to effect the rapid growth of calcium carbonate single crystal.

A denitration apparatus is useful for the treatment of an NOx-containing untreated gas from an offgas source. The apparatus includes a means for feeding the NOx-containing untreated gas, a means connected to the feeding means so as to charge ammonia into the untreated gas, a denitration reactor with a catalyst packed therein, and a means for discharging the thus-denitrated gas. The apparatus also includes a bypass means, which connects the gas-discharging means to the gas-feeding means at a location upstream of the duct of the ammonia-charging means so that a portion of the untreated gas is caused to bypass the denitration reactor and is then mixed in the resultant gas. The apparatus further includes a means for regulating the flow rate of the untreated gas to be caused to pass through the bypass means.

A method of manufacturing BaPb.sub.1-x Bi.sub.x O.sub.3 single crystal wherein the BaPb.sub.1-x Bi.sub.x O.sub.3 single crystal is grown by hydrothermal synthesis which applies heat and pressure to a nutrient composed of BaPb.sub.1-x Bi.sub.x O.sub.3 within a nitrate aqueous solution, such as LINO.sub.3, KNO.sub.3 and NaNO.sub.3 aqueous solutions.

A starting material composed of calcium carbonate is dissolved in a nitrate aqueous solution containing alkali nitrate under application of heat and pressure. The starting material is hydrothermally synthesized within the nitrate aqueous solution to effect the rapid growth of calcium carbonate single crystal.

According to the applicant's invention a load detector is used, in which a load sensor and a vibration sensor are combined using an AND gate. A load signal from the load detector is used for the feedback control of the cutter drum height and double ranging drum cutter running speed, so that a person who is not skilled can operate the double ranging drum cutter while preventing overload acting on the cutter drum.

A double ranging drum cutter for long wall type machines for coal extraction is disclosed, which comprises a drum cutter body, a television camera mounted on the drum cutter body for picking up an image of a coal layer cutting portion of a lower bedrock being cut by a cutter drum, a television camera mounted on the drum cutter body for picking up an image of a coal layer cutting portion of an upper bedrock being cut by a cutter drum, and a video image processing unit mounted on the drum cutter body and connected to the television cameras, whereby the boundary between a coal layer and bedrock can be readily judged to permit extraction of much coal without cutting much bedrock and also the ratio of the area of a bedrock to the area of a coal layer in a portion of the bedrock being cut can be readily detected.

A flue gas desulfurization process by which gypsum can be recovered; the amount of water used therein is small, the effluent is treated in a closed system, the equipment used is minimized, and no scaling occurs; and an apparatus therefor are provided, the process including the following first process and second process: the first process comprising a cooling step of cooling and dedusting a SO.sub.2 -containing flue gas and removing acidic gases, an absorption step of contacting the cooled gas with a slurry containing limestone and lime to absorb and remove SO.sub.x and form CaSO.sub.3, a pH-adjusting step of adding H.sub.2 SO.sub.4 to the resulting slurry, an oxidation step of blowing an oxygen-containing gas in the pH-adjusted slurry to form gypsum, a step of concentrating the resulting gypsum slurry, a step of adjusting the concentration of the resulting slurry, a step of centrifugally separating gypsum, and a step of treating the effluent discharged from the cooling step, and the second process comprising, in the first process, further feeding the slurry of the absorption step to the cooling step where unreacted limestone is reacted with SO.sub.2 to form CaSO.sub.3 .

Flue gas desulfurization process

A flue gas desulfurization process capable of producing a high purity gypsum and also making equipment employed as minimum as possible is provided, which process comprises the steps of cooling and dedusting flue gas containing SO.sub.x ; contacting the cooled gas with a slurry containing limestone to remove SO.sub.x by absorption and also form CaSO.sub.3 ; controlling the pH of the resulting slurry and then blowing air therein to form gypsum; and separating gypsum from the resulting slurry. As a modification of the above process, the slurry of the above second absorption step is further fed to the above first cooling step where unreacted limestone and SO.sub.x are reacted to form CaSO.sub.3.

Limestone-gypsum flue gas desulfurization process

A steel strip heated to a temperature above a recrystallization temperature is passed through a cooling unit including a plurality of cooling rollers cooled by cooling water flowing through the interior thereof. The steel strip is caused to pass alternately about upper and lower surfaces of the cooling rollers. By raising and lowering alternate cooling rollers, the contact angle and therefore the contact area, i.e., the contact time between the strip and the cooling rollers is varied to change the cooling rate. When the cooling rollers are separated from the strip. Cooling water is filled into the cooling unit to directly cool the strip. Cooling gas may be ejected against the strip before it enters into the cooling unit.
