A voice communication arrangement having a voice communication program installed in a computer loaded with a versatile OS thereon includes a voice data input/output function for passing through the OS voice data produced from voice sound captured by a microphone of the arrangement or received from another voice communication device, when connected to the arrangement, without being processed by the OS as audio data.

Voice communications apparatus is connected to a general subscriber telephone set or a broadband telephone set, to communicate over the public switched telephone network. The apparatus includes a filter converting signals such as to satisfy signal conditions prescribed for the telephone network. The apparatus also includes a terminal class determiner for determining the class of the telephone set connected, and a circuit for changing at least the sampling frequency at which the analog signals from the telephone set are sampled. This establishes high quality in broadband voice communications. The terminal class determiner may automatically determine the class of the telephone set at any timing of a call sequence by detecting a band component of the signals from the telephone set, a predetermined frequency of a signal intermittently transmitted from the telephone set or the characteristics of the telephone set.

The device comprises: a digital filter array that exhibits filter qualities in response to a coefficient setting signal showing each supplied arrays of filter coefficients, and includes a first-stage filter that receives the received voice signals as well as multiple later-stage filters connected thereto in a straight line; a filter qualities designator that generates input designation that designates each qualities of the multiple digital filters forming the digital filters array; and a filter coefficient setter that retains multiple arrays of filter coefficients, extracts a filter coefficient array corresponding to the designation input from among the multiple filter coefficient arrays, and supplies to each multiple digital filters. The noise-canceling device for a voice communication terminal provided to obtain desired filter qualities in real-time without calculation of filter coefficients.

A telephone switching system includes line packages and a switch unit allowing a path to be established between the line packages. At least one line package is interconnected to, e.g. a broadband-adaptive unit, and is adaptive to both of a first coding rule expected of the switch unit and a second coding rule higher in compression ratio than the first coding rule. The broadband-adaptive line package, monitoring the coding rule of another line package connected thereto, adapts itself to the first coding rule if the other line package is adaptive only to the first coding rule, or adapts itself to the second coding rule if the other line package is adaptive to both of the first and second coding rules.
