An electronic jacquard mechanism for controlling shedding motion of warps by selectively holding dropper needles by means of solenoids in accordance with command signals generated from a computer. Movable cores of the solenoids are directly fixed on one end of the dropper needles. Housings of the solenoids, including stationary cores and coils, are secured directly on a printed board associated with the computer. The solenoids can be densely arranged on the printed board corresponding to the arrangement of the dropper needles, allowing greater compactness of the mechanism.

Medical appliances are continuously packed for sterilization thereof by the process wherein (1) bags having micropores in peripheral side portions thereof to be sealed, which micropores allow passage of a sterilizing gas and a high pressure steam but do not allow passage of germs, are formed from packing sheets; (2) medical appliances are inserted into the bags while the bags are formed; (3) all the peripheral side portions of the bags are sealed; and (4) the sealed bags containing the packed medical appliances are separated into packages each having the packed medical appliance.

A process for producing a sheet-like material of split fibers, and an apparatus therefor are described. The process includes the steps of introducing a plurality of continuous fiber bundles into a liquid contained in an inclined splitting unit which is gradually widened toward the lower end thereof, the unit being divided into a plurality of grooves so that each fiber bundle travels in the liquid flowing in the corresponding groove, splitting each fiber bundle by the action of the liquid flowing in the groove while gradually widening the flow toward the lower end of the groove, uniformly arranging the resulting split fibers in a subsequent inclined splitting frame, and continuously placing the thus arranged split fibers on a rotating conveyor to form the sheet-like material.

A filamentary strand of a thermoplastic nature is ejected from an ejection nozzle being entrained on a heated medium flow into a stuffing chamber structured on a circulating endless surface moving at a speed slower than the ejection speed and the stuffed filamentary strand is transported, being carried by the endless surface, towards a downstream outlet of the stuffing room in such a way that the yarn mass is gradually compressed during displacement toward the downstream outlet of said stuffing room. During the transportation either a free or a positive cooling is employed. The resultant filamentary strand is provided with random, bulky and round three-dimensional crimps.
