A light source apparatus according to the present invention includes a phosphor wheel having a phosphor disposed in an annular shape on a disk-shaped base material, the phosphor serving to emit fluorescent light from excitation light, thereby forming an excitation light source having a predetermined color, and the phosphor having a discontinuous portion in a part of the annular shape, an excitation light source for emitting the excitation light with which a passage position of the circular phosphor is irradiated with respect to the phosphor wheel to be rotatively driven by the wheel motor, and a controller that controls light emission of the light source and the excitation light source synchronously with a position of the discontinuous portion with respect to an irradiation position of the excitation light.

Light source apparatus and projector

A surface light source device includes a first light source for emitting first light, a first light guide rod for causing the first light to be incident thereon and converting the first light into first linear light, a second light source for emitting second light having a greater divergence angle than the first light, and a second light guide rod for converting the second light into second linear light extended in the same direction as the first linear light. Moreover, the surface light source device includes a reflecting bar disposed on an emitting side of the planar light from the first and second light guide rods, and a reflecting portion taking such a box shape as to have an internal wall serving as a reflecting surface, and having an opening portion on a surface at the emitting side of the planar light.

Surface light source device and liquid crystal display device

A surface light source device includes a plurality of LEDs for emitting a plurality of light having different colors, and a light guide body for mixing the colors of the plurality of light and emitting light having colors mixed. The light guide body includes a light incident portion for causing the plurality of light to be individually incident, and a light emitting portion provided beside the light incident portion and changing propagation angles of the plurality of light which is incident from the light incident portion and propagated into the light guide body to mix colors, thereby controlling a quantity of light emission from the light guide body and a light emitting position.

A light source device has a first monochromatic light source group, a second monochromatic light source group, a polarization selection and wavelength selection element, a first phosphor layer, and a second phosphor layer. The first monochromatic light source group outputs first polarized light having a fixed polarization direction. The second monochromatic light source group outputs second polarized light having a fixed polarization direction. The first phosphor layer emits light in a first wavelength band. The second phosphor layer emits light in a second wavelength band. The polarization and wavelength selection element directs the first polarized light onto the first phosphor layer by transmitting the first polarized light and directs the second polarized light onto the second phosphor layer by reflecting the second polarized light, reflects the light in the first wavelength band and transmits the light in the second wavelength band.

Light source device using monochromatic light to excite stationary phosphor layers

A projection device includes: first light sources each emitting a first light; a collimator lens that converts the first lights into parallel light beams; a condensing optical system that receives the parallel light beams and emits concentrated light beams; and an optical element having an incident surface through which the concentrated light beams enters the optical element. The condensing optical system is configured so that when a light beam parallel to an optical axis of the condensing optical system is incident on the condensing optical system, the light beam is concentrated at a position on the axis on the incident surface. The parallel light beams are incident at different positions of the condensing optical system while approaching the axis. Emitting positions of the light beams on the condensing optical system and incident positions of the light beams on the incident surface are opposite each other with respect to the axis.

Projection display device

A light source device includes a plurality of light sources with different polarizations. A combined wavelength band of the light of a first polarization and second polarization is a first wavelength band. A combined wavelength band of a third polarization and fourth polarization is a second wavelength band. A plurality of selective transmission elements transmits one or more combined light of one or more polarizations and reflects one or more light of one or more polarizations. Thus, the light of the first polarization, the light of the second polarization and the light of the third polarization passing through a third selective transmission element, and the light of the fourth polarization reflected by the third selective transmission element proceed in the same direction.

Light source device and projection-type display apparatus

A projection type display apparatus having a long-life light source device with high light utilization efficiency includes first and second light source lamps; a light intensity equalizing element; first and second bending mirrors; an image display element modulating a light flux emitted from the light intensity equalizing element and converting it into image light; and a projection optical system projecting the image light on a screen; and the first light source lamp, the second light source lamp, the first bending mirror and the second bending mirror are arranged so that a first optical axis of the first light source lamp disagrees with a second optical axis of the second light source lamp and a first distance between the first bending mirror and an incidence end differs from a second distance between the second bending mirror and the incidence end.

Projection type display apparatus having a light source device with improved light utilization efficiency

A projection-type display apparatus includes an illumination optical system () including a light source, a reflection-type light valve () having an image forming area on a to-be-illuminated surface illuminated by the illumination optical system (), and a projection optical system () that projects an image formed on the image forming area of the reflection-type light valve (). The projection optical system () is shiftable in a direction approximately perpendicular to a projection optical axis. An F-number of the projection optical system () is smaller than an F-number of the illumination optical system (). Between the projection optical system () and the reflection-type light valve (), an opening defining member () that defines an incident side opening of the projection optical system () is provided, which is not moved by the shifting of the projection optical system ().

Projection-type display apparatus

A projection display apparatus is provided which offers improved contrast while smoothly controlling the amount of light, with a simple structure and without deterioration of lifetime due to the heat of the light from a light source. This projection display apparatus includes a light valve, a light source for emitting light to the light valve, an integrator lens disposed on the optical path of the light propagating from the light source to the light valve, for making uniform the illuminance distribution of the light from the light source, and a shutter mechanism disposed on the light path, for controlling the amount of light that illuminates the light valve. The shutter mechanism has a pair of light-blocking members having cuts formed in their respective protruding sides to regulate the passage of light, and the pair of light-blocking members are moved straight to protrude/retract on the optical path, perpendicularly to the optical path from both sides of the optical path, so as to control the amount of the light according to the extent of their protrusion on the optical path.

Projection display apparatus

The projection display apparatus includes rotation regulating elements for inhibiting a rotation of the mount ring in a tightening direction, and a stopper element displaceable between a non-locked position and a locked position, wherein the stopper element is displaced to the non-locked position when the mount ring is rotated to a rotating position in a loosening direction from a predetermined position in the tightening direction, and is displaced to the locked position when the mount ring is rotated to the predetermined position in the tightening direction.

A projection type display apparatus includes a projection lens barrel holding a projection lens, a micro mirror type display element, and a main body which holds the micro mirror type display element and on which the projection lens barrel is mounted. The projection lens barrel is formed with a barrel-side reference surface which becomes a mounting reference in a direction of an optical axis, and the main body is formed with a mounting reference surface against which the barrel-side reference surface abuts. The main body has an adjusting mechanism which adjusts a length between a reflection surface of the micro mirror type display element and the mounting reference surface.

Projection type display apparatus having micro mirror type display element

A time management section is configured to change an output voltage in accordance with a temperature change characteristic of a lamp allowed to cool down. For restart of the lamp after the turn-off of the lamp, the lamp is cooled by a fan before the operation of turning on the lamp when it is judged that the temperature of the lamp is higher than a predetermined value, based on the output voltage from the time management section. The lamp is immediately turned on without the cooling of the lamp by the fan when it is judged that the temperature of the lamp is lower than the predetermined value.

Projection display apparatus with capability of controlling whether to cool lamp depending on lamp temperature when restarting lamp

A projection display device comprises: a diaphragm for the illuminating system disposed in the vicinity of a focal point of the light collected by the concave mirror; a collimation lens for rendering parallel the light passing through the aperture of the first diaphragm; a scattering-type liquid crystal light valve for forming forming image on its displaying surface; a field lens for converging the light rendered parallel by the collimation lens; a projection lens having an entrance pupil disposed in the vicinity of a focal point of the light converged by the field lens; and a second diaphragm having an aperture and provided in the projection lens. An aperture varying section of the first diaphragm varies the aperture diameter of the diaphragm of the illuminating system, and the other aperture varying section varies the aperture diameter of the diaphragm of the projection lens, thereby varying the diameter of an entrance pupil.

A light source device including a light emitting element emits a luminous flux, which is converged by a reflecting mirror. A conical light-refracting element receives the luminous flux converged by the reflecting mirror and changes the cone angle of the luminous flux. The luminous flux exiting the conical light-refracting element is diffused by a holographic diffuser and is then converged by at least one lens. The reflecting mirror may have an elliptic curvature or a parabolic curvature. The light source device is also used to form a projector for a projection type display apparatus. In the projector, the luminous flux emitted from the light source device may be separated by color separators into a plurality of colors of light. Then, each color of light is directed to the corresponding one of a plurality of light valves. Then, a color synthesizer synthesizes the colors of light emitted from the light valves into a composite image which in turn is projected onto a screen. A plurality of such projectors are used to construct a multiscreen projection type display system where each of the projectors projects a corresponding image. At least one reflecting mirror for bending a corresponding one of the images is included in the multiscreen projection type display system. The reflecting mirror projects the image onto a screen so that the images emitted from the plurality of projectors are combined into a composite image on the screen.

Projection type display including a holographic diffuser

In a light source apparatus for use with a projection type display, at least one light source is provided for emitting light. A reflector is provided correspondingly to the light source in order to gather the light emitted from the light source into a small area to form a converged luminous flux. A light guide has at least one light input section into which the luminous flux is coupled. The light input section is provided correspondingly to the light source. The light guide combines the luminous flux received through the light input sections into a single beam of luminous flux. The light-guide has at least one light output section from which said luminous flux is output. The light source apparatus may also include light-refracting element provided between the reflector and the light-guide. The light-refracting element receives the converged luminous flux from the reflector to refract the converged luminous flux so as to couple the converged luminous flux, as a uniform luminous flux, into the light-guide.
