An image display device is constructed to prevent warping of a face substrate and a back substrate, can ensure the hermetic bonding of a support body, which is interposed between both substrates and is constituted of a combined body formed of a plurality of members, can easily from a large screen of the display device, and can enhance a hermetic property maintaining function. For this purpose, the support body, which is interposed between the face substrate and the back substrate and surrounds a display region, is formed of a projected parallel assembled body formed by combining a plurality of rod-like members having joining portions that cross each other at an approximately right angle. Projecting portions, which are constituted of distal end portions of the rod-like members, extend outwardly and are provided on a side of the support body outside of the display region.

Display device

The present invention provides an image display device in which it is possible to obtain an image display of high brightness and high contrast by preventing the halation which may be generated in a peripheral portion of a display image. By providing a carbon film which attenuates the reentry of secondary electrons, which are generated when electron beams impinge on an anodes, to a back surface of the anode, even when primary electrons impinge on the anode, the secondary electrons are hardly emitted from the anode. At the same time, a trace amount of emitted secondary electrons are mainly formed of electrons having a small energy. Hence, these emitted secondary electrons are scattered and hardly reenter the anode.

Rupture of distance holding members, aback substrate or a front substrate attributed to atmospheric pressure is suppressed in a display device in which, between the back substrate having cathode lines and plate-member control electrodes and the front substrate, a large number of distance holding members, which maintain distance between the substrates, are mounted in an erect manner. At portions where the distance holding members are brought into contact with the back substrate and/or the front substrate, a buffering/fixing material, which is constituted of a buffering material having high resiliency and an adhesive, is interposed for dispersing the atmospheric pressure applied from the back substrate and the front substrate substantially uniformly. Further, the distance holding members are fixed between the back substrate and the front substrate by a heat treatment and a pressurizing step.

A display device includes a front substrate having an anode and fluorescent materials on an inner surface, and a back substrate having a plurality of cathode lines and include electron sources, and a plurality of control electrodes allow electrons from the electron sources to emit to the front substrate side, on an inner surface thereof. The back substrate is arranged to face the front substrate in an opposed manner with a given gap therebetween, and an outer frame for holding the given gap is interposed between the front substrate and the back substrate and extends around the display region. An inner frame is arranged outside the display region and inside the outer frame, and a getter is provided between the outer frame and the inner frame.

A display device includes a face substrate which has anodes and phosphors on an inner surface thereof, a back substrate which has cathode lines and electron sources formed on the cathode lines, a support body which is interposed between both substrates such that the support body surrounds a display region and forms a given inner space, and a sealing material which hermetically seals the support body and both substrates. To enable the display device to produce a high quality display and have a long lifetime while ensuring the conduction in a wide range between the cathode lines and the electron sources, the cathode lines are made of a material having a conductor and an insulator, and the composition of a connecting portion between the cathode line and the electron source is formed such that the conductor occupancy rate becomes equal to or more than the insulator occupancy rate.

The present invention provides a display device which can sufficiently ensure spaces for mounting distance holding memberswhen the distance holding membersare mounted, can facilitate the assembling and can realize the electron emission characteristics of high performance. At least two different types of gaps b, c (b&#x3c;c) are provided among cathode lines(R,G,B) and the distance holding membersare mounted at portions of the gaps c having a larger size whereby the space for mounting the distance holding memberscan be sufficiently ensured.

Inside an outer frame, which is interposed at between opposedly facing peripheries between a back substrate and a front substrate, there is an inner frame which fixes both end portions of plate member control electrodes, which are constituted of a large number of parallel strip-like electrode elements. By integrally forming the plate member control electrodes such that the plate member control electrodes are fixed to both end portions of a display region, a single part is formed. Further, a getter chamber is formed between the outer frame and the inner frame and getters are accommodated in the getter chamber. Due to such a constitution, the operability and yield rate of products at the time of assembling can be enhanced. Further, it is possible to hold a desired degree of vacuum in the space between the substrates for a long time.

A display device of the present invention reduces the occurrence of cracks and breaking of plate-like control electrodes, enhances the operability of assembling and suppresses the reduction of a yield factor of products. The display device includes a back substrate which has a plurality of cathode lines which extend in one direction, are arranged in parallel in another direction which crosses one direction and include electron sources respectively, and a plurality of control electrodes which cross the cathode lines in a non-contact manner within a display region, extend in another direction and are arranged in parallel in one direction on an inner surface thereof, and a front substrate which has anodes and phosphors on an inner surface thereof and faces the back substrate with a given distance therebetween. The control electrodes are formed of plate-like control electrodes. The plate-like control electrode includes electron passing holes which allow electrons emitted from the electron sources to pass therethrough in the display region. Further, the plate-like control electrode has a portion which is fixed to the back substrate in an external non-display region. Still further, the plate-like control electrode has at least a portion in the external non-display region where the strength of the plate-like control electrode is gradually changed toward an end portion thereof in the extending direction.

A gap defined between cathode wires having electron emitting sources and control electrodes is made uniform and a thickness of an insulation layer interposed between both of them is made thin or the insulation layer is eliminated whereby the electron emission characteristics and the high-frequency driving of high performance can be realized. The control electrodes which have recessed portions in plate-like members and have holes for allowing electrons to pass therethrough in bottom portions thereof restrict the gap defined between the cathode wires and the control electrodes by adjusting a plate-thickness direction size of the holes formed in the control electrodes

A display device can realize the highly efficient electron emission characteristics by ensuring the exposure of carbon nanotubes in the inside of a vacuum by fixing the carbon nanotubes to cathode wires such that the carbon nanotubes are not easily removed from the cathode wires with the small resistance which enables the carbon nanotubes to have the enough electron emission ability. Some end portions or some intermediate portions of the carbon nanotubes are embedded into the cathode wires formed on a rear substrate and, at the same time, contact points where the carbon nanotubes cross each other or portions in the vicinity of the crossing portions are bonded to each other by bonding films

Display device and method of manufacturing the same

The present invention provides a display device which can maintain a gap between a front surface panel and a back surface panel at a given value and maintain the air-tightness of a sealed space defined between the front surface panel and the back surface panel even when the gap is relatively large. To achieve such an object, the display device includes the back surface panel the front surface panel and the outer frame the outer frame is constituted of a plurality of divided wall members X X Y Y and C to C Further, at least at some portions where neighboring wall members are engaged with each other, oblique surfaces P are formed and a crossing angle which is made by a normal line of the oblique surfaces P and a normal line of the back surface panel or the front surface panel is set to an acute angle.

A color cathode ray tube has an electron gun, a phosphor screen, and a shadow mask closely spaced from the phosphor screen. The shadow mask has plural strips extending in a direction perpendicular to a horizontal scanning direction of electron beams emitted from the electron gun and plural bridge portions connecting adjacent ones among the plural strips. The shadow mask is formed with an aperture area having plural slot-shaped electron beam apertures therein. The shadow mask is provided with at least one wire held under tension in the extending direction of the plural strips so as to be superposed on a surface of one of the plural strips in the aperture area. The surface of the one of the plural strips is a surface of the one of the plural strips facing the electron gun.

An implosion-protected cathode-ray tube has a bulb and a metallic band tightly binding the front outer peripheral portion of the bulb to suppress the occurrence of accidental implosion of the bulb during the manufacturing processes including a heating and evacuation process and a rapid cooling process after the heating and evacuation process as well as after the manufacture of the cathode-ray tube. The material forming the metallic band and the size of the metallic band meet the following conditions: i) the thermal expansion coefficient .alpha..sub.s of the material is not less than the thermal expansion coefficient .alpha..sub.g of the glass forming the bulb; ii) a value expressed by: L(1+.alpha..sub.s..delta.t), where L is the inner perimeter of the metallic band at the ambient temperature when the tightened metal band is removed from the bulb and where .alpha.t is the temperature differential between the ambient temperature and a temperature for a heating and evacuation process, is smaller than the perimeter of the front outer peripheral portion of the bulb on which the metallic band is shrunk, during the heating and evacuation process, and iii) a stress corresponding to the yield point of the material of the metallic band remains in the metallic band at the ambient temperature.

Implosion-protected cathode-ray tube

An apparatus for anastomosing a digestive tract including a plurality of substantially U-shaped retainers that are disposed around an annular groove in the outer periphery of a support tube formed of a soluble material. The annular groove has inner side and bottom surfaces and the retainers are disposed in the tube at a plurality of locations along both the inner side surfaces and the inner bottom surface of the groove in a radial array. The retainers have spaced apart ends and are each made of a shape memory alloy or resin endowed with a property of moving the spaced apart ends to a closed state at a predetermined temperature, or made using a spring member, or provided at the spaced apart ends with magnets that will attract each other. In use, the retainers are released from the support tube when the soluble material of the support tube is dissolved and assume closed state when they reach the predetermined temperatures to clamp the digestive tract therebetween.

A solar battery has a pair of opposed light incident transparent electroconductive and back electrodes sandwiching amorphous silicon layers formed on a substrate with at least a major surface of the back electrode surface being in contact with an organic resin layer and being made of a compound of a transition metal and silicon, a compound of a transition metal and nitrogen, or a compound of a transition metal and carbon. Excellent corrosion resistance of the back electrode is obtained and the battery has high performance and high reliability.
