An electrophotographic reproducing machine wherein an integrally formed dish-like housing for an exposure optical system is mounted onto a machine frame which accommodates therein a plurality of process units for reproducing and is opened upward, and a document glass plate is mounted at the top portion of the housing for the exposure optical system through glass mounting plates. The housing accommodates therein a slit plate for scanning of an exposure lamp, a projection lens, which is formed in its peripheral walls with vent holes for promoting ventilation within the machine and which has at its bottom portion a shield bottom wall serving as also a heat insulating plate. Guide rail surfaces for guiding movable mounts of the optical system are formed on both side walls of the housing opposite to each other. A projection lens mounting seat is integrally formed substantially at the center of the bottom wall of the housing, and a shield box raised upward from the bottom wall is integrally formed on the bottom wall at a position adjacent to the production lens mounting seat.

An improved cleaning apparatus for a copying machine includes, in addition to a conventional magnetic brush-type device in which a rotatable sleeve partially immersed in developer surrounds a group of magnets, a magnetic member disposed immediately upstream of the normal cleaning position at which the magnetic brush sleeve is brought into predetermined proximity with the photosensitive member. The magnetic member is located closely adjacent the surface of the photosensitive surface so that residual developer particles remaining on the photosensitive surface are magnetically attracted to the magnetic member prior to and for the purpose of supplementing conventional magnetic brush cleaning immediately downstream therefrom.

A sheet feeding apparatus includes a pivotally disposed tray for supporting a stack of sheets thereon, a sheet feeding roller positionally fixed proximate the leading edge of the uppermost sheet of a stack on the tray, a biasing member for urging the tray in opposition to the fixed feeding roller so that the uppermost sheet of the stack is pressed into frictional contact with the roller, and a wedge-shaped supplemental displacement member of a relatively light specific gravity material disposed intermediate the tray and a sheet stack supported thereon to displace the tray with respect to the feeding roller by an amount greater than that displacement otherwise imparted to the tray by sheets stacked thereon so as to increase the frictional feeding force with which the uppermost sheet is pressed against the feeding roller by the biasing member and thereby facilitate feeding of sheets having properties that might otherwise interfere with normal feeding from the tray.
