A deep groove ball bearing includes an outer ring, an inner ring, a plurality of balls, and a seal member. An axial cross-sectional width is smaller than a radial cross-sectional height, a thickness of the inner ring is greater than a thickness of the outer ring, and a pitch diameter of the ball is larger than a median diameter between an inner diameter of the inner ring and an outer diameter of the outer ring A radial dimension between an outer diameter of a shoulder portion of the inner ring and an inner diameter of the seal member is greater than the thickness of the outer ring. As a result, width and weight can be reduced, a load capacity can be secured, grease leakage can be prevented, and a service lifespan can be extended.

In a bearing apparatus which is composed of two bearings each including a crown-shaped retainer and in which a lubricant is filled into its raceways, a preload is applied from the retainer pocket-opening side end face of an inner ring, and also a preload is applied from the retainer counter-pocket-opening side end face of an outer ring.

Rolling bearing and bearing apparatus

A ball bearing is described, which comprises an outer ring having on its inner periphery an outer raceway, an inner ring having on its outer periphery an inner raceway, plural balls rotatably disposed between the outer raceway and the inner raceway, a cage holding the plural balls in a freely rotatable manner, and a grease packed in a space between the outer raceway and the inner raceway, wherein the inner peripheral surface of each pocket of the cage contains a spherical part consisting of a spherical concave surface whose radius of curvature is slightly larger than that of each ball and a curved part which has the radius of curvature being larger than that of the spherical part and is smoothly continuous from the end of the spherical part toward the end thereof on the opening side of the pocket.

Ball bearing

The pocket surface of a pocket with a ball stored therein has a pair of first pocket surfaces respectively formed inside a pair of pawls and a second pocket surface situated between the two first pocket surfaces. The second pocket surface is formed as a spherical-shaped concave surface having a radius of curvature the center of curvature of which is the rotation center of the ball in a no-load state. Each of the first pocket surfaces has a center of curvature shifted from the center of curvature of the second pocket surface toward the opposite side to the entrance (opening) of the pocket by an axially shifting quantity h , and each of the first pocket surfaces is formed, starting from the present center of curvature, as a spherical-shaped concave surface with its radius of curvature set larger than the radius of curvature of the second pocket surface.

In the ball bearing, the ratio of the radius of curvature of an inner race raceway to the outside diameter of balls is set in the range of 0.51 to 0.54. Also, the ratio of the radius of curvature of an outer race raceway to the outside diameter of balls is set in the range of 0.54 to 0.56. Further, an interior geometric clearance c is set at 13 &mgr;m or less. Thanks to these specifications, the balls can be prevented from running up onto the edge of the outer race raceway
