An input apparatus includes a plurality of electrodes spaced apart from each other, a signal processing unit configured to output an input signal depending on a change in a capacitance of each electrode, and a determination unit configured to determine whether an operation object comes in a proximity of at least one of electrodes based on input signals output from the signal processing unit. The determination unit makes a determination such that in a case where one of the input signals is greater than or equal to a first threshold value and an integral value of another of the plurality of input signals in a predetermined integration period is greater than or equal to a second threshold value, it is determined that an operation object has come in a proximity of an electrode corresponding to the one of the input signals.

A pulse width is measured, it is selected whether a determination process is performed for a pulse width having the length of one bit in accordance with the measured value of the pulse width or a pulse width having the length of &#xbd; bit, it is discriminated whether a current pulse edge is a pulse edge at the center of the bit or a pulse edge at the boundary between bits while considering the bit data right before the determined bit, and when it is determined that the current pulse edge is the pulse edge at the center of the bit, the bit data is determined by the rising edge or the falling edge of the pulse edge.

A fiber retaining structure is disclosed for readily and reliably mounting and retaining optical fibers on a casing in which a light-emitting element and a light-receiving element are incorporated. The fiber retaining structure includes a first link 61 for moving both a second link 26 for crashing O-rings with optical fibers 2 and 3 inserted therethrough against a casing 24 in which a light-emitting element 6 and a light-receiving element 7 are incorporated and holders 27 and 28 for holding the optical fibers when a lever 29 is pushed down, and a spring material. Since the inner diameter of a sealing material for sealing a gap around the optical fiber is set substantially equal to the outer diameter of the optical fiber and since the holding of the optical fibers by the entire holders is performed separately, the distal ends of the optical fibers can be readily and reliably brought into abutment with the light-emitting element and the light-receiving element and the optical fibers can be reliably retained.

Fiber retaining structure for photoelectric sensor

An optical reading device is disclosed which comprises: a light emitting element for emitting light to irradiate a medium; a light receiving element for carrying out the light-electro conversion of the reflected light from the said medium which is irradiated from the light emitting element; a light receiving side lens for focussing the light reflected from the medium onto the light receiving element and having an optical axis aligned with the optical axis of the light receiving element; and a light emitting side lens having a larger numerical aperture than that of the said light receiving side lens, and for focussing the light from the said light emitting element onto the said medium, and also having an optical axis deviatingly disposed from the optical axis of the light receiving element; characterized in that the optical axis of the light emitting side lens is disposed within the focal zone on the detection surface of the medium, that is, within the focal zone of the light coming from the light emitting element through the light emitting side lens. The optical reading device thus constituted will not be influenced much by the forward reflection of light, the setting range of the resolving power will be made free, the focal depth will become deeper, and the reading probability will be improved.

Optical reading device

A hand-held optical reading device which is gripped by an operator's hand to scan and read bar codes optically indicated on a medium. The device comprises an outer case shaped into the tubular form and having an opening formed in the circumferential surface thereof and an end opening formed at the end face thereof, light emitting and receiving elements accommodated in the outer case for detecting information optically recorded on the medium, a push-button switch for instructing to start a detection operation of the light emitting and receiving elements, an operating button having an operating portion accommodated in the opening to be capable of being depressed inwardly through the opening to transmit a depressing force to the push-button switch, and also having a slip-off checking portion to prevent the operating button from slipping off through said opening, a depressing portion provided on the operating button to be abutted against a movable actuating portion of the push-button switch member, and an inclined portion provided on the operating button in crossed relation to the depressing portion and also inclined in the direction in which the push-button switch is inserted and assembled from the opening at the end face of the outer case. The device is improved in the assembling facility and the structural reliability of the assembly.

Pen type optical reading device having plural lens arrangement

An optical reader which has a light emitting element, a photodetector, a light emitting side lens for converging a light emitted from the light emitting element to a surface to be detected, and a photodetecting side lens for converging a light reflected on the surface to be detected to the photodetector, wherein the light emitting side focus point focused at the light emitting element by the light emitting side lens is set at a position separated from the lens farther than the photodetecting side focus point focused at the photodetector by the photodetecting side lens. Thus, the adverse influence of a regular reflection light can be prevented in a small-sized structure and a detecting accuracy can be enhanced without decreasing the light detecting efficiency of the optical reader.

Optical reader with reduced regular reflection errors

In an optical reader a lens is mounted in and held in a mounting recess at a portion of the tip of a casing accommodating a light emitting element and a light receiving element, the recess continuing from a tapered bore through which light from the light emitting element passes. The casing is formed by resin molding, and the mounting recess has a flat bottom surface. Therefore, the apparatus can be manufactured at low cost while preventing the lens from becoming damaged during its press fitting into the recess, and also enabling the lens to be securely held therein.

Mounting for a ball lens on a bar code reader wand having a tapered lens

An optical reading device which is capable of being assembled readily and assures stabilization of the distance between a sensor of the reflecting type and a surface of a medium to be read by the sensor. The sensor is carried on a holding member, and an engaging member is pivotally supported on the holding member at a location spaced from the sensor. A screw shaft and a guide shaft extend in parallel to each other and to an axis of pivotal motion of the engaging member. The screw shaft has a spiral groove formed thereon for meshing engagement with a toothed portion formed on the engaging member or the holding member and is rotated to move the holding and engaging members therealong. A record medium to be read by the sensor is fed in a direction perpendicular to the screw shaft. A contact element is provided on the holding member for assuring a minimum distance between the sensor and a surface of the record medium to be read by the sensor. A resilient member is disposed between the holding and engaging members for urging them such that the contact element may be resiliently contacted with a sliding face and the toothed portion may be resiliently engaged with the spiral groove of the screw shaft.
