C., thereby melting the molded layer, then causing the atmosphere to retain the heating temperature and meanwhile increasing the oxygen partial pressure, thereby inducing precipitation of crystal grains possessing a Bi.sub.2 Sr.sub.2 CaCu.sub.2 O.sub.8 (Bi-2212) structure and excelling in orientation, and subsequently maintaining the oxygen partial pressure and temperature at the time of precipitation of the crystal grains, thereby transforming the structure into the (Bi-2223) structure while retaining the particle diameter of the crystal grains and the state of orientation, and superconducting oxide tape produced by the method.

This invention concerns a method for the production of an oxide superconducting tape material having a composition of Bi.sub.2 Sr.sub.2 CaCu.sub.2 O.sub.8, which method consists essentially of forming a sandwich structure comprising a layer formed of a superconducting powder consisting essentially of Bi, Sr, Ca, Cu, and O and having an essential structure of Bi.sub.2 Sr.sub.2 CaCu.sub.2 O.sub.8 and silver sheet layers, the superconducting powder layer being interposed between the silver sheet layers, heating the sandwich structure at a temperature in the range of 810.degree.-910.degree. C. in an atmosphere consisting of oxygen and an inert gas and having an oxygen partial pressure in the range of 0-90%, thereby melting the superconducting powder layer, and then elevating the oxygen partial pressure of the atmosphere while retaining the same heating temperature, thereby crystallizing the molten superconducting powder layer.

Disclosed are a hydrogen storage electrode and a process for producing the same. The process includes the steps of: coating the surface of hydrogen storage alloy powder with copper or nickel, thereby making the hydrogen storage alloy powder into microcapsule; mixing the microcapsule with uncrosslinked silicone rubber and/or powder for forming porosity; and pressure molding the mixture of the microcapsule, the uncrosslinked silicone rubber and/or the powder for forming porosity, thereby completing the crosslinking of the uncrosslinked silicone rubber during or after the pressure molding. The hydrogen storage electrode has a reduced capacity deterioration characteristic during a high rate electric discharge and an extended charge and discharge cycle life, since the silicone rubber binds the neighboring mecorcapsules elastically, thereby preventing the microcapsules including the hydrogen storage powder from coming off, and since the powder for forming porosity forms microspaces on the boundaries between itself and the silicone rubber, thereby improving the hydrogen permeability and reducing the internal electric resistance.

This invention relates to a method for manufacturing a heat transfer module to improve the thermal efficiency of a hydrogen adsorption alloy. The hydrogen absorption alloy particles are coated with a metal which is different from that of the alloy, followed by the formation of a compact with the coated particles. The compact so formed has a substantially uniform specific gravity. The compact is then inserted in a pipe mode of a metal which is different from that of the alloy. The pipe has an internal diameter which is a function of the diameter of the compact and the free expansion coefficient of the compact. The method will improve the usefulness of hydrogen adsorption alloy in practical use.

A reactor in which a compact of hydrogen adsorption alloy is incorporated, comprising a plurality of parallel-bridged thermal reaction elements, each comprising a heat transfer pipe tightly enclosing a hollow cylindrical compact of hydrogen adsorption alloy and a jacket pipe enclosing in parallel, the heat transfer pipe with a path formed therebetween. The reactor achieves a rapid heat exchanging velocity and considerable shortening of reaction time as compared with the prior art.

This invention discloses a compact of hydrogen adsorption alloy principally composed of a metal hydride in which all surfaces of fine particles of hydrogen adsorption alloy are completely coated with a dissimilar metal by plating, without effecting reactivity and a porous material of high thermal conductivity is infiltrated with the fine particles of alloy to be formed into a compact by compression molding. By this construction, it is possible to improve decline in the thermal conductivity or dropping of the fine particles out of cells of the porous material caused by micronization as a result of repeated uses of the hydrogen adsorption alloy are avoided.

This invention discloses a heat exchanger comprising a compact of hydrogen adsorption alloy formed by a process of coating surfaces of fine particles of hydrogen adsorption alloy composed principally of a metal hydride with a dissimilar metal by plating and either by a process of compression molding of the coated alloy or by a process of filling a heat-conductive porous material with the coated fine particles of hydrogen alloy followed by a process of compression molding thereof. By this arrangement, it becomes possible to improve such disadvantages of conventional heat exchanger using hydrogen adsorption alloy as a decline of heat conductivity caused by micronization of the hydrogen adsorption alloy as a result of repeated uses or a decline of filling rate of the alloy caused by collapse and dispersion of the fine particles of the alloy compact eventually bringing about a decline of the heat exchanging function.
