Provided are a transition metal mixed hydroxide comprising an alkali metal other than Li, SOand a transition metal element, wherein the molar ratio of the molar content of the alkali metal to the molar content of the SOis not less than 0.05 and less than 2, and a lithium mixed metal oxide obtained by calcining a mixture of the transition metal mixed hydroxide and a lithium compound by maintaining the mixture at a temperature of 650 to 1000&#xb0; C.

Disclosed is a sodium secondary battery. The sodium secondary battery comprises a first electrode and a second electrode comprising a carbonaceous material. The carbonaceous material satisfies one or more requirements selected from the group consisting of requirements 1, 2, 3 and 4. Requirement 4: Qvalue obtained by a calorimetric differential thermal analysis is not more than 800 joules/g.

There is provided a method for producing an active material for a nonaqueous secondary battery, including firing an adherend in which a compound containing an element A (at least one element selected from among B, Al, Ga, In, Si, Ge, Sn, Mg and transition metal elements) is adhered to a particle surface of a material capable of being doped and dedoped with lithium ions, in a water-containing atmosphere so that weight increasing rate of the adherend is in a range of 0.1% by weight or more and 5.0% by weight or less, and firing the adherend.

Lithium composite metal oxide and nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery

There is provided a simple and easy method of preparation of a positive electrode active material for a non-aqueous secondary battery which comprises a compound comprising lithium, nickel and manganese and having a layered structure. Said method comprises firing a mixture of (1) at least one member selected from the group consisting of dinickel trioxide and boron compounds and (2) one or more metal compounds comprising lithium, nickel and manganese as their metal elements.
