A two-component, or two-part epoxy resin composition which adheres well to wet mortar and concrete is provided. One part comprising a non-cycloaliphatic epoxy resin, a reactive diluent in the form of an epoxy compound, a modifying resin selected from the group consisting of a coumarone-indene polymer resin, a dicyclopentadiene polymer resin, an acrylonitrile modified polyvinyl chloride resin, an amino terminated acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer resin, and an epoxy terminated polybutadiene resin, a silane coupling agent having an epoxy or amino group, and a synthetic zeolite is combined, on use, with the other part comprising an amine curing agent selected from the group consisting of a cycloaliphatic polyamine, an aliphatic/aromatic polyamide, and an amine adduct.

Two-component epoxy resin compositions

A curable component composed of (A) an epoxy resin containing at least 90% by weight of a bisphenol glycidyl ether and (B) an aliphatic polyamine is blended with (C) 1-xylyl-1,3-diphenylbutane, bis(.alpha.-methylbenzyl)xylene, and/or 1-xylyl-1-(3-.alpha.-methylbenzylphenyl)ethane, and (D) a coloring pigment and/or an inorganic filler to form a coating composition adapted to be coated to the inner surface of pipes through which city water passes. The composition is cured to the pipe inner surface to form a film which provides a chlorine take-up of up to 1 ppm from city water flowing in contact with the film.

According to the present invention, a coat is formed by applying a coating composition comprising an epoxy resin obtained by a bisphenol represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms and a curing agent, to a substrate; and thereafter contactings the resulting coat with a liquid such as warm water or hot water in a one stage or multistage process. The thus formed coat is excellent in properties such as heat resistance, particularly erosion resistance adhesive properties and resistance to leaching of organic constituents contained in the coat exposed to hot water.
