A sheet conveyor includes a separation roller, a retard roller forming a nip with the separation roller, and a load application device configured to apply a load to the retard roller. The load application device includes a motor, a first drive train, a second torque limiter isolated from the first drive train, and a controller. The first drive train includes a plurality of gears for transmitting a driving force from the motor to the retard roller, a first torque limiter, and a clutch disposed between the motor and the first torque limiter. The second torque limiter is configured to communicate with the retard roller. The controller is configured to, during conveyance of a sheet, control the clutch to allow transmission of the driving force from the motor for a predetermined time period and to interrupt transmission of the driving force from the motor after expiration of the predetermined time period.

An image forming apparatus includes a tray, a roller unit, an image forming unit, and a pressing mechanism. The roller unit includes a feed roller disposed above a downstream end portion of the tray in a sheet conveying direction in which a sheet is conveyed, a separation roller disposed downstream of the feed roller in the sheet conveying direction, and a roller holder pivotable about a rotation axis of the separation roller, the roller holder holding the feed roller rotatably about an axis of the feed roller and pivotably vertically. The pressing mechanism includes an arm member configured to press the roller holder such that the roller holder pivots downward, and a weight portion provided to the arm member and applying, to the arm member, a load in a direction in which the feed roller is raised from the upper surface of the sheet supported on the tray.

A sheet feeding apparatus includes a feed roller, a roller holder supporting the feed roller rotatably about a rotation axis, a frame supporting the roller holder pivotably about a first axis parallel to the rotation axis of the feed roller, a force-transmitting device configured to transmit, to the roller holder, a force with which to cause the roller holder to pivot in a direction where the feed roller is pressed against a tray, a force-applying member movable between a force applying position where the force-applying member contacts the force-transmitting device to apply the force thereto and a force-free position where the force-applying member is spaced apart from the force-transmitting device, and a cushioning member configured to, when the force-applying member is at an initial contact positon located between the force applying position and the force-free position, be sandwiched in contact between the force-transmitting device and the force-applying member.

An image forming apparatus includes a sheet receiving portion configured to receive a sheet, a drum unit including a photosensitive drum configured to carry a developer image to be transferred onto the sheet, a contact member configured to contact the sheet fed from the sheet receiving portion toward the photosensitive drum, a roller configured to contact the contact member, an elastic member configured to exert an elastic force to press the contact member toward the roller, and a frame supporting the roller, the frame receiving the elastic force from the elastic member via the roller and the contact member when the roller is in contact with the contact member. The drum unit includes a restriction portion configured to restrict the frame from moving in a direction perpendicular to the width direction, the restriction portion being disposed on a side of the frame opposite to the elastic member.

An image forming apparatus which forms an image with an image forming section includes: a casing in which the image forming section is arranged; a cover which is displaceably attached to the casing; a first elastic portion which is elastically deformable, and which is provided on one of the casing and the cover, the first elastic portion having an engage-objective portion which is engageable with an engaging portion provided on the other of the casing and the cover; and a second elastic portion which is elastically deformable, and which applies, to the first elastic portion, a force in a direction returning the first elastic portion to an original state when the first elastic portion is deformed.

A sheet conveying device includes: first, second and third rollers, a conveying member, a frame, a first pressing member, and a force-generating unit. The first and second rollers rotate while nipping the sheet therebetween. The third roller and the conveying member nip the sheet therebetween. The frame is elongated parallel to an axis about which the third roller rotates and supports the third roller. The first pressing member applies a first pressing force to an axial center of the first roller to press the first roller toward the second roller and applies a reaction force of the first pressing force to the frame to press the frame in a direction toward the conveying member. The force-generating unit generates a nipping force for nipping the sheet between the third roller and the conveying member and applies an urging force to the frame in a direction away from the conveying member.

A roller device may include a main body, a first roller configured to rotate around an first axis line extending in a predetermined axial direction, the first roller including an end portion in the axial direction, and a supporting member including a first supporting portion configured to rotatably support the end portion of the first roller and an engaging portion configured to engage the main body. Further, the main body including a regulating portion disposed inside the movable range when the supporting member is located at a third position and disposed outside the movable range when the supporting member is located at a fourth position.

Roller device

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit, an inner guide, an outer guide opposing the inner guide. The inner guide and the outer guide define a curved transporting path where the recording sheet is transported. The image forming apparatus further includes a first feeder positioned upstream of the curved transporting path and a second feeder positioned downstream of the curved transporting path. The outer guide includes a rigid guide and a deformable resilient guide superimposed on the rigid guide. The rigid guide includes a first outer guide portion extending to a first downstream position and a second outer guide portion extending to a second downstream position positioned downstream of the first downstream position. A first resilient guide portion of the resilient guide, which corresponds to the first outer guide portion, extends to a third downstream position positioned downstream of the first downstream position and does not extend beyond the second downstream position.

An image forming apparatus comprises: conveyance rollers for conveying paper to an image forming unit; a curved paper path for guiding paper conveyed by the conveyance rollers; and registration rollers, which are located at a downstream side of the paper path in a paper conveyance direction, for regulating the tip of paper to be conveyed to the image forming unit. The paper path has an outer guide part which constitutes an outer periphery side of the paper path, and an inner guide part which constitutes an inner periphery side of the paper path. The outer guide part is provided with an outer recess, which is depressed outward from the paper path, formed across the full width of paper. The inner guide part is provided with an inner recess, which is depressed in such a manner that the paper path expands, formed across the full width of paper.

A sheet conveyer device is provided. The sheet conveyer device includes a sheet tray, a feeder roller, a separator roller, a roller holder to rotatably support the feeder roller and to be coupled with the separator roller, spreading from a separator roller side toward a feeder roller side, to be movable between a first position and a second position, a manipulation arm configured to be coupled to the roller holder and to manipulate the roller holder to move between the first position and the second position, and a driving unit to drive the manipulation arm to move the roller holder. The manipulation arm is coupled to the roller holder at a coupled section, which is in a position between the feeder roller and the separator roller and in a position between two tangent planes which are common to the feed roller and the separator roller.
