In one embodiment, a method includes presenting, to a user in an XR environment, a persistent GUI element that includes a control deck. The control deck includes one or more first interactive elements, each first interactive element associated with a particular function. The method further includes locking, in a first control-deck mode, the control deck to the user such that the control deck appears at the same relative position to the user regardless of the user's movements in the XR environment.

The method further includes determining, based on the determined location, a location-specific layout for one or more XR objects in an XR environment for display to the user and displaying, by a display of the XR system, the location-specific layout in the XR environment.
