A method of impregnating with resin a frictional plate for power transmission built into a brake pad or clutch facing. The frictional plate or work comprises a metallic base plate joined to a fiber based substrate containing friction increasing material. The resin impregnating method comprises moving a work in a predetermined direction while ejecting resin from at least one nozzle, spaced at a predetermined distance from the work, and moving in a direction transverse to the direction of movement of the work. The resin impregnated into the fiber based substrate of the work is dried by utilizing the air flow generated by the movement of the work.

A piezo-electric actuator operated press in which piezo-electric actuators are employed as punch driving sources, and, with a workpiece held between an upper and lower die set, the punches are driven by the piezo-electric actuators to punch the workpiece; the punches and the piezo-electric actuators are built in the respective die sets, and the movable one of the die sets is coupled to a die shifting mechanism, so that it is driven to a die opening position or a die closing position, whereby the workpiece can be smoothly fed in and taken out of the press.

Pre-loaded piezoelectric actuators provide improved work piece displacement, frequency of repetition, accuracy and repeatability. Actuators may use a coil spring providing a compressive force adequate to substantially fully compress a laminated piezoelectric element on a non-destructive basis. Upon activation, a pre-loaded actuator delivers a full workpiece drive stroke because piezoelectric element axial compression has previously occurred. Pre-loading methods and pre-loading to damp out element oscillation are also disclosed.

An electric contact with a base metal used as a switch wherein the non-welded peripheral portion of the contact is prevented from bow-like bending and from peeling off. The electric contact with a base metal having a contact promoting shape is formed by die forging of a contact material joined to the base metal by resistance welding. The composite contact material is prepared by coating the core material of Ag-oxide contact material with non-oxide contact material. The side of the material in contact with the base metal is of non-oxide contact material. The contact material may be pressed to fill a groove preformed in the base metal, welded to protrusions preformed in the base metal, welded to the bottom of a cut preformed in the base metal, or welded to bottoms of recesses preformed in the base metal.

A driving power unit for a piezoactivator is disclosed that utilizes a semiconductor switching device for supplying power to the piezoelement. When the voltage measured across the piezoelement attains a predetermined valve, the semiconductor switching device turns off. Sensing devices cause the switching device to turn on upon the voltage dropping by a predetermined margin and cause the voltage source to turn off when the switching device remains on beyond a predetermined time period. Memory and logic circuitry also control the switching sequence of the switching device.

A press is described using piezoelectric actuators to achieve both the hold down of the work piece during the processing operation as well as powering the die used in deforming the work piece. The sub-assembly containing the piezoelectric element is structured to allow convenient removal from the main body of the press thereby facilitating repair operations, as well as coarse and fine adjusting facilities for the position of the piezoelectric element within the actuator assembly.

The electro-magnet relay of the present invention utilizes an iron core and an armature both formed as flat plates stacked together. Further, a stationary leaf spring and a moveable leaf spring are provided in the middle section of the iron core having two legs and being shaped as an inverted U. The armature is supported in a hole located in the insulating substrate and may swing to a degree determined by a striking piece formed on the armature. Coil terminals and contact terminals protruding from the bottom of the insulating substrate are arranged in a single line in the electro-magnetic relay of the present invention and may be installed on a high density printed circuit board.

A method of producing a plurality of individual contact spring assemblies for use in an electromagnetic relay in which movable and fixed contact springs for each assembly are held by a molded resin base comprises the steps of caulking a first set of contacts and a second set of contacts to a unitary sheet metallic blank and stamping out the movable and fixed contact springs from the metallic blank. The method further comprises the steps of bending the stamped-out movable and fixed contact springs into a predetermined configuration such that the fixed and movable contact springs are in opposition to each other and molding a base so that selected portions of the movable and fixed contact springs are embedded therein. Finally, the method comprises the step of cutting the fixed and movable contact springs from the metallic blank.
