In a cell washing centrifuge for washing living cells such as blood cells, control of the remaining amount of a supernatant according to the related art greatly depends on controlling the rotation speed of a motor, and thus a highly accurate motor control part is required to prevent overshooting or the like. In place of the related art, an easy control method is required. In the discharging of a supernatant discharge by a centrifuge having a plurality of test tube holders that can radially swing through centrifugal force, a holding part using an electromagnet that can control the swinging of the test tube holders, and a cleaning liquid distribution element that supplies a cleaning liquid into a test tube, a first decanting operation ({circle around (3)}-1) is performed by rotating a rotor in the order of acceleration, settling, and deceleration in a state in which the agitating angle of the test tube is restricted and discharging the supernatant of the cleaning liquid from the test tube, and a second decanting operation ({circle around (3)}-2) is performed, at a time of a final decanting operation, by accelerating the rotor, releasing restriction on the agitating angle during the acceleration, and then decelerating the rotor.

According to an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a centrifuge including: a rotor rotated by a driver; a chamber housing the rotor therein; a cover openable and closable with respect to the chamber; and a lock mechanism that locks the cover in a closed state, wherein the lock mechanism includes: a motor; a first hook rotated by the motor; and a second hook connected to the first hook through a connecting member, wherein the cover includes a securing portion on which the first hook and the second hook are respectively secured when the cover is locked, and wherein, during a locking operation of the cover, primary the first hook is engaged with the securing portion and pulls the cover toward the chamber, and then the second hook is engaged with the securing portion.

In a centrifuge comprising a rotor mounted on a drive shaft to be rotatable and having a plurality of bucket accommodating portions and a plurality of buckets placed in the bucket accommodating portions to be swingable, a plurality of sensors are provided to detect each of the buckets. In a case in which each of the sensors does not the bucket when the rotor is in a stop condition or in a low-speed rotation condition, a decision is made that an abnormality of a swinging movement of the bucket has occurred, and the fact of the occurrence of the abnormality is notified to a user. This allows abnormal conditions of the apparatus to be detected, thus protecting a sample and apparatus and enabling the maintenance of the apparatus in advance.

A swing rotor for centrifugal machines is provided. The rotor comprises a rotor body around which plural arms are disposed. A through hole is formed in place through each arm. Plural buckets are arranged around the rotor body so as to be swingable between two arms. Each rotor pin is inserted through each through hole to be arranged in a direction of a normal line to a rotation axis of the rotor body, so that two buckets are swingably supported by both ends of each rotor pin. Each end of the rotor pin is shaped into an outwardly extended taper form having a predetermined taper angle made to a center axis of each rotor pin. The taper angle is substantially equal to an angle made between a swinging axis of each bucket and the center axis of each rotor pin. This reduces failures in swing motions of the buckets.

An automatic centrifugal machine comprises a handling apparatus for shifting a test specimen from a predetermined position, a rotor equipped with a bucket accommodating the test specimen, a drive motor for rotating the rotor, a chamber surrounding the rotor, and a refrigerator for cooling the chamber, and the automatic centrifugal machine has a height equal to or less than 1,450 mm. A conveyor line, conveying the test specimen, has a height in a range from 750 mm to 850 mm. A management system for use in a centrifuge equipped with a detachable rotor which is rotatable so as to separate density-different samples by a centrifugal force due to the rotation. The management system is for managing the lifetime of the rotor on the basis of the detection results of an operated-condition detector for detecting operated conditions such as the number of times of rotation, running time and rotational speed of the rotor. The management system includes a data storing device which is provided on the rotor to be rotatable therewith and is composed of a magnetic recording medium to allow keeping data relating to the operated conditions of the rotor. Also included in the management system is a data processing unit coupled through a data reading and writing device such as a magnetic head to the data keeping device and also coupled to the operated-condition detector to be responsive to the operated conditions. The data processing unit reads out previous data from the data keeping device at the time of start of operation of the centrifuge, processes the operated conditions from the detector together with the read previous data to write on the data storing device new data produced by the data processing.
