The system includes: a plurality of individual eye optical systems forming the plurality of images with different fields of view on an imaging surface; and an overall optical system forming an image with a field of view incorporating the entire fields of view obtained by the plurality of individual eye optical systems on the imaging surface, wherein the individual eye optical systems and the overall optical system are configured by a lens array plate having a plurality of lenses integrally formed.

Provided is an optical recording head in which a light beam from a light source is collected by an optical element and reflected on a reflecting surface to be formed into a spot light. Since a support portion for supporting the light source of the optical element at a predetermined position and the reflection surface for reflecting the light beam are formed integrally with each other, it is not required to perform the positioning thereof, and light can be collected to a very small spot with high efficiency, and an optical recording head and an optical recording apparatus having low heights can be provided.

An optical information recording and reproducing apparatus relating to the invention employs a two-beam interference method. In the optical information recording and reproducing apparatus, a moving device moves an information recording medium between a recording and reproducing position and a retracting position, and a mirror moves together with the information recording medium. When the information recording medium moves to the recording and reproducing position, the mirror moves to a position which is displaced from the at least one of the reference beam and the information beam. A recorder has a recording head which uses light for information recording to a recording medium. The recording head has a slider and an optical waveguide. The slider moves relative to the recording medium while floating thereon. The optical waveguide is provided in the slider and has a refractive index difference of 20% or more between a core and a cladding.

To obtain an optical element for generating near-field light which can accurately detect positions of a plurality of minute structures formed on a metallic thin film provided to a condensing surface, and a method of adjusting an optical spot position of the optical element. The metallic thin film is formed on the condensing surface of the optical element that condenses incident light so as to generate near-field light smaller than an condensing spot B near a condensing point, and a plurality of openings (minute structure) for generating the near-field light are formed into a matrix matter on the metallic thin film, and position detecting structures are formed on positions that partitions the openings is formed. Scanning in X and Y directions is carried out by a light beam, and its reflected light is detected so that the positions of the openings are detected.

Broadcasting waves transmitted from a broadcasting device include operation control information for operating peripheral devices on a receiver side in accordance with the contents of a broadcast program in addition to broadcast data about said broadcast program. The receiver outputs the broadcast data to a display device, and transmits an operation command signal dependent on the operation control information to the peripheral devices to operate the peripheral devices in accordance with the contents of the broadcast program. As a result, an air conditioner raises or lowers room temperature and an illumination device blinks according to the progress of the program.

A recording and reproducing apparatus has an optical head that is provided with a laser light source for emitting light and a reflection converging optical system. The reflection converging optical system reflects light emitted from the laser light source, and converges the light on one point of a bottom surface of a solid immersion lens. Here, the reflection converging system has a first reflection surface for reflecting incident light; and a second reflection surface for further reflecting the light reflected by the first reflection surface and for converging the light onto the bottom the solid immersion lens.

An optical device for making light converge produces a convergent light beam with a satisfactorily great numerical aperture and acceptably small aberrations. The optical device has a plurality of diffraction gratings that each make light converge. The light shone into the optical device is passed through one after another of those diffraction gratings in such a way that the light is made to converge to a higher degree every time it passes through one of the diffraction gratings. The diffraction gratings may be all transmissive, all reflective, or a combination of both. The diffraction gratings are formed on a surface of or at an interface inside the optical device, and two diffraction gratings may be formed on a single surface. The light is made to eventually converge on the exit surface of the optical device so that the optical device functions as a solid immersion device.

An optical head has a near-field light generating element generating near-field light; and a beam shaper which shapes an incident beam into a substantially toroidal beam and directs the shaped beam to said near-field light generating element. According to the optical head having the above-described structure, the incident light is shaped into a substantially toroidal beam without being intercepted, incident on the zonal part of the near-field light generating element, and condensed to a minute spot. That is, only the light of the high numerical aperture part is used with efficiency, and the light can be condensed to a minute spot.

An SIM (solid immersion mirror) made principally of a light-permeable high-refractive-index medium has a lower surface which is produced by rotating a parabola about a symmetry axis, and an upper surface which is a perpendicular bisector surface of a line segment connecting the vertex and the focus of the parabola. The upper surface has the property of transmitting collimated light incident in a direction perpendicular thereto and reflecting the light reflected from the lower surface. Such a structure of the SIM facilitates the design of the upper surface and the lower surface both of which are reflecting surfaces, and allows the light to be incident on a light focusing point uniformly from therearound, thereby to form a proper light spot at the light focusing point. Additionally, the SIM allows the light to enter the medium through the entire upper surface, to achieve effective use of light.
