Provided is a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery separator including a porous film containing, as a main component, polyolefin having a weight average molecular weight of not less than 500,000, the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery separator having an MD orientation ratio of 58% to 80%, a degree of MD orientation of 70% to 80%, and a degree of TD orientation of 65% to 85%, the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery separator having a film thickness of not more than 14 &#x3bc;m, and the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery separator being excellent in shutdown temperature and puncture strength.

A modified metal complex obtained by subjecting a metal complex containing an organic compound having one nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocycle and four or more structures of a phenol, thiophenol, aniline or nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocyclic ring or an organic compound having two or more phenol rings and three or more nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocycles, in its molecule as a ligand, to a heating, radiation irradiation or discharge treatment until a mass reduction rate after the treatment becomes from 1 to 90 mass %, thereby the complex shows a carbon content after the treatment of 5 mass % or more.

A lithium mixed metal oxide containing Li, Mn and M (M represents at least one metal element, and is free from Li or Mn), and having a peak around 1.5 &#x212b; (peak A), a peak around 2.5 &#x212b; (peak B), and the value of I/Iis not less than 0.15 and not more than 0.9 in a radial distribution function obtained by subjecting an extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectrum at K absorption edge of Mn in the oxide to the Fourier transformation, wherein Iis the intensity of peak A and Iis the intensity of peak B.
