A female terminal () to be connected to an end of a wire () in which a core () is covered with an insulation coating (), and the wire () being pulled out rearward therefrom. The female terminal () includes two coating crimping pieces () extending in opposite lateral directions intersecting a pull-out direction of the wire () and to be crimped to an outer peripheral surface of the insulation coating (). Compressing portions () are formed on the surface of each coating crimping piece () that faces the insulation coating () and are disposed adjacent a front edge of each coating crimping piece (). Each compressing portion has an internal space narrowed toward a rear end from the front edge of the coating crimping piece ().

Structure for improving impact strength of a terminal

A wire with terminal includes a wire in which a core is covered with a coating, and a terminalincluding a wire barrelto be crimped to the core exposed from the coating of the wire and an insulation barrelto be crimped to the coating of the wire. The wire is pulled rearwardly from the terminal. RecessesB are provided on a surface of the insulation barrelto be crimped and openings of the recessesB are shaped to become narrower toward a rear side. As the wire is pulled more rearwardly, the coating penetrating into the recessesB moves rearwardly of the recessesB to be compressed and hardened and becomes less likely to come out of the recessesB. Thus, impact strength can be enhanced.

A terminal that is connected to an end of an aluminum electric wire obtained by covering core wires with an insulating cover. The terminal is provided with a pair of insulation barrel pieces (crimping pieces) that extend in directions that intersect the longitudinal direction of the aluminum electric wire, and are crimped to the outer circumferential surface of the insulating cover. The pair of insulation barrel pieces have tip end portions that face and abut against each other in a state in which the pair of insulation barrel pieces are crimped to the insulating cover.
