A working apparatus performs predetermined work on moving subject works carried by work carriers, which are coupled to and transported, one after another, by, a conveyor system. The apparatus holds a work carrier at a working station and releases mechanical coupling between the work carrier and the conveyor system upon a detection of a work carrier located in a predetermined position relative to the working station. The work carrier located at the working station is transported at a speed of the work carrier detected in the predetermined position independently from the conveyor system while performing the predetermined work on the subject work carried by the work carrier at the working station. Upon completion of the predetermined work, the work carrier is released so as to restore the mechanical coupling between the work carrier and the conveyor system.

A method of measuring and adjusting the wheel alignment of an automotive vehicle comprises bringing all of the four tires in condition for actual on-road running performance, restricting axial movement of both of the front tires alone, measuring the toe-in angles of the front and rear tires and adjusting the toe-in angle of each of the rear tires to the specification whereby the center line of an alignment adjusting apparatus is brought into alignment or parallel relation to the center line or axis of the vehicle. An apparatus is also disclosed for reducing this method to practice.

A four wheel automotive vehicle is placed in a horizontal plane and is capable of being tilted in a direction perpendicular to a lengthwise direction of the car body. After determining a reference position of each front wheel in a transverse direction, perpendicular to the lengthwise direction of the automotive vehicle, the plane is tilted at an angle proportional to a cant of a road in the transverse direction. While rotating synchronously the front and rear wheels in the same direction as they would rotate when the automotive vehicle moves forward, a toe angle of each rear wheel and a deflection from the reference position of each front wheel, in the transverse direction, are measured. Observing the measurements of toe angle and deflection, the toe angles of the rear wheels are adjusted totally to a desired toe angle until the deflection becomes almost zero. Thereafter, observing the measurements of toe angle, the toe angles of the front wheels are adjusted totally to a desired toe angle.

A substrate and an article to be assembled with the substrate are conveyed separately to an assembly station in which they are assembled. A conveyor line conveying the substrates to the assembly station is provided with an adhesive coating station where the substrate is coated with an adhesive. A conveyor line conveying the articles is provided with a conveyance velocity detection means for detecting a conveyance velocity at which the article is conveyed. A timing in which the substrate starts being coated with the adhesive by an adhesive coating means is adjusted in accordance with a change in the conveyance velocity. A period of time required from a time for the start of coating the adhesive to a time for the start of assemblying the substrate with the article is made constant by adjusting the timing of the start of coating the adhesive.

The present invention is drawn to a vehicle wheel testing device for detecting the alignment of a vehicle wheel rotating at a testing position on support rollers. The device includes a base plate slidably mounted in the device for sliding toward and away from the vehicle wheel, a sensor member carried by the base plate and mounted to the base plate for moving relative to the base plate, an urging device operatively connected to the base plate for urging the sensor member toward the vehicle wheel, and a control device operatively connected to the urging device. The control device controls the urging device to place the sensor member in contact with the vehicle wheel under a relatively low force during a start-up stage of the operation during which the vehicle wheel is rotated and shifts laterally on support rollers toward a testing position due to the toe-in of the vehicle wheel, and for subsequently controlling the urging device to urge the sensor member against the vehicle wheel under a relatively high force during a testing stage in which a detecting device detects the relative position of the sensor member to the base plate. Under the relatively low force, the vehicle wheel can reach the testing position relatively quickly resulting in a lowered overall testing time.

A multi-pole circuit interrupter comprising an electrically insulating housing having two side walls and at least two partition walls defining therebetween a central compartment and at least two side compartments. A central pole unit is disposed within the central compartment and a side pole unit is disposed within each of two side compartments. Each of the units includes a stationary contact element, a movable contact arm, an arc extinguisher and terminals for the external connection. The distance between a center line passing through the centers of the stationary contact element, the movable contact arm and the arc extinguisher of each of the pole units is smaller than the distance between the center lines passing through the terminals of each pole unit, so that the thickness of the housing side wall can be increased without increasing the overall width dimension of the housing.

An apparatus and method for sequentially applying adhesive to windshields, conveying each windshield to an inverting apparatus, inverting the windshield, removing the windshield with a transfer device and installing the windshield in automobile bodies. The actual curing time of the adhesive on the windshield is measured and compared to a reference curing time and if the actual curing time exceeds the reference curing time, the apparatus is operated to prevent the windshield from being installed on an automobile body. Instead of being installed by the transfer device, when the actual curing time exceeds the reference curing time, the windshield is either transported by the windshield conveyor to an auxiliary transfer device which transfers the windshield to a removing conveyor or the transfer device delivers the windshield directly to the removing conveyor. A computer and sensors are provided for automating operation of the apparatus.

In a circuit breaker, an arc is produced between a pair of switchable contact members when these contact members are opened due to overcurrent. An arc extinguishing apparatus is employed to extinguish an arc produced between the opened contact members. The arc extinguishing apparatus includes a plurality of U-shaped metal arc extinguishing plates which are stacked, and a pair of insulating plates made of a synthetic resin. These insulating plates are mounted on both inside surfaces of leg portions of the extinguishing plates.

An accurate and high-speed measurement of the vehicle wheel alignment is achieved by an optoelectronic, non-contact measurement system. This system includes photoelectric sensors for detecting the distance between a reference vertical plane and a tire side surface of each wheel, and a stepping motor for adjusting the position of the sensors to follow-up the displacement of the wheel in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. Operation of the stepping motor is controlled by a microcomputer on the basis of the updated distance data delivered from the sensor inputs. The microcomputer processes the input data to compute a toe-in or a camber of the wheel for the analog or digital display.

An apparatus for loading a spare wheel on a vehicle body comprises a robot operative to load the spare wheel on a predetermined portion provided in the vehicle body supported and transported by a carrier mounted on a vehicle body conveying device, a speed detecting device including a movable mechanism which engages temporarily with the carrier to move together with the carrier and detecting a speed of transportation of the vehicle body based on a speed of movement of the movable mechanism, and a robot moving device for shifting the robot along a direction of transportation of the vehicle body at a speed determined in response to the speed detected by the speed detecting means.

The circuit interrupter also comprises a bearing assembly secured to the housing for rotatably supporting the cross bar, and the bearing assembly has a stop surface capable of being engaged by the movable contact assembly for determining the OFF position of the movable contact assembly.

A circuit interrupter comprises a toggle link having an upper toggle link and a lower toggle link pivotally connected by a knee pin to each other, a movable contact arm having a movable contact element secured thereon and connected to the lower toggle link of the toggle link, and a toggle link stopper capable of contacting the upper toggle link for preventing the bouncing back of the movable contact arm during tripping of the movable contact arm. The toggle link stopper is provided with a first stop surface which is brought into engagement with the upper toggle link when the movable contact arm is being tripped open and a second stop surface which is brought into engagement with the upper toggle link at a position closer to the knee pin than to the first stop surface when the movable contact arm is bouncing back. Thus, the toggle link is engaged by two stop surfaces at two stages, enabling the preventing of the bouncing of the movable contact arm.
