A recording medium includes an ink-receiving layer formed by applying a coating liquid onto at least one surface of a substrate and drying the coating liquid, the coating liquid containing hydrated alumina and a binder, in which the hydrated alumina in the coating liquid has an average particle size of 100 nm to 250 nm, the surface of the ink-receiving layer has an arithmetic average roughness Ra of 0.8 &#x3bc;m to 2.5 &#x3bc;m, the arithmetic average roughness Ra being specified by JIS B0601:2001, and the surface of the ink-receiving layer has a specular gloss at 60&#xb0; of 10.0% or less, the specular gloss at 60&#xb0; being specified by JIS Z8741.

Recording medium

The invention provides a recording medium capable of inhibiting conspicuousness of scratches attached to the recording medium and preventing the occurrence of density unevenness in an image. The recording medium has a substrate and an ink receiving layer provided on the substrate, wherein substrate is a resin-coated substrate obtained by coating a base material with a resin, and wherein Ra2 is 0.3 &#x3bc;m or more and 2.5 &#x3bc;m or less and Ra1&#x2212;Ra2 is 2.0 &#x3bc;m or more, where Ra1 is an arithmetic average roughness of a surface of the substrate son the side of the ink receiving layer as prescribed by JIS B 0601:2001 and Ra2 is an arithmetic average roughness of the outermost surface of the recording medium as prescribed by JIS B 0601:2001.

A recording medium includes a substrate and at least two ink receiving layers formed on the substrate. In the recording medium, an uppermost ink receiving layer of the at least two ink receiving layers has a dry coated amount of 5 g/mor more and 20 g/mor less and contains hydrated alumina which a divalent metal compound adheres to. The invention provides a recording medium capable of inhibiting occurrence of undertrapping, lowering the visibility of scratches on the outermost surface of the recording medium and inhibiting occurrence of a mottled pattern when recording is conducted. The recording medium has a substrate and an ink receiving layer provided on the substrate, wherein the arithmetic average roughness Ra of the outermost surface of the recording medium as prescribed by JIS B 0601:2001 is 1.1 &#x3bc;m or more and 2.5 &#x3bc;m or less, and the skewness Rsk of a roughness curve of the outermost surface of the recording medium as prescribed by JIS B 0601:2001 is 0.1 or less.

Provided is an inkjet recording medium in which hydrated alumina and a sulfinic acid compound or thiosulfonic acid compound coexist in a pigment in an ink receiving layer, and which can prevent white-background yellowing during storage in a resin file holder or the like and ensure printing quality at the same time.
