Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, a processor receives an incoming data stream that includes alpha channel data, and a memory stores an application programming interface (API). The API is to route the alpha channel data to a fixed point blending unit to perform one or more blending operations using fixed point representation of the alpha channel data. The API is further to route the incoming data stream to a floating point blending unit to perform operations involving floating point representation of the incoming data.

Cell primitive for unstructured volume rendering

Embodiments provide for a graphics processing apparatus including a cache memory and logic coupled to the cache memory to compress color data output from the first cache memory. In one embodiment the cache memory is a render cache. In one embodiment the cache memory is a victim data cache. In one embodiment the first cache memory is a render cache coupled to a victim data cache and logic is configured to compress color data evicted from the render cache and the victim data cache. The compression can include a target compression ratio to which the data is to be compressed.

Method and apparatus for multi format lossless compression

Various embodiments are generally directed to techniques for causing the storage of a color data value of a clear color to be deferred or entirely avoided as color data values of primitives of an image are stored. An apparatus includes a processor element; and a logic to store color data values of a block of pixels of the image in a first portion of a cache line, store an indication of the first portion as written and of a second portion of the cache line as not in a per-portion table, evict contents of the first and second portions, and store the contents of the first portion in an image data and store a color data value of a clear color in place of the contents of the second portion in the image data in response to the indications stored in the per-portion table. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
