A silicone resin represented by formula (1) and having a Mw of 1,000-8,000 is useful in cosmetics.[(CH)SiO][RSiO][RSiO][RSiO][SiO]&#x2003;&#x2003;(1)Ris a C-Calkyl group, C-Caryl group (exclusive of phenyl) or C-Cfluorinated alkyl group, Rand Rare each independently a C-Calkyl group, C-Caryl group or C-Cfluorinated alkyl group, a=0-0.2, b=0.1-0.5, c=0-0.2, d=0.01-0.5, e=0-0.6, a+b+c+d+e=1.0, at least one phenyl group is included in the molecule. A film of the silicone resin has a refractive index of at least 1.48.

A water absorbing resin has a siloxane skeleton which is a copolymer containing a structural unit derived from a polymerizable vinyl monomer (A) shown by the general formula (1), a structural unit derived from a polymerizable vinyl monomer (B) shown by the general formula (3), and a structural unit derived from an organopolysiloxane (C) having polymerizable groups at the both terminals thereof shown by the general formula (4). The water absorbing resin has a siloxane skeleton that is capable of thickening an aqueous composition without making it sticky, together with a cosmetic containing the same.

A method for producing a hydrosilyl group-containing organic silicon resin of formula (6) in a solid form, wherein after formulae (1) to (3) are hydrolyzed in the presence of an acid catalyst, hydrolysis is carried out by adding hydrosilyl group-containing organic silicon compounds of formulae (4) and (5), followed by neutralization by a base catalyst with the amount thereof being more than a molar equivalent of the acid catalyst, and then by condensation. By so doing, deactivation amount of the hydrosilyl group can be reduced, so that the method for producing the hydrosilyl group-containing organic silicon resin, which is in a solid form without a solvent and to which a hydrosilyl group can be introduced quantitatively and in a large quantity, is provided,RSiOSiR&#x2003;&#x2003;(1)RSiX&#x2003;&#x2003;(2)SiX&#x2003;&#x2003;(3)HRSiOSiRH&#x2003;&#x2003;(4)HRSiX&#x2003;&#x2003;(5)(RSiO)(HRSiO)(SiO)(RSiO)&#x2003;&#x2003;(6).
