A separator for electrochemical element, comprising a porous sheet that contains as a main fiber, a fibrillated solvent spun cellulose fiber with an average fiber length of 0.40 to 1.10 mm, has an average internal bond strength of 60 mJ or more in a thickness direction, and has a lowest internal bond strength of 30 mJ or more in the thickness direction, a process for producing the separator, and an electrochemical element using the separator. The separator for electrochemical element has strong mechanical strength and excellent processability.

A base material for a lithium ion secondary battery separator provided by the present invention comprises a polyethylene terephthalate fiber, in which an average fiber diameter of the polyethylene terephthalate fiber is 9.0 &#x3bc;m or less, a specific X-ray diffraction intensity derived from the polyethylene terephthalate fiber is 300 cps/(g/m) or more, and a coefficient of variation of a specific X-ray diffraction intensity is 12.0% or less, and is excellent in the workability during production and excellent in mechanical strength, uniformity and handling in a subsequent treatment step.

A coated printing paper has a favorable offset printability, which can achieve good ink fixing and ink absorption properties even in ink jet printing, which has suitable dot diffusion even when printed by an ink jet printer using pigment ink, and can prevent the occurrence of white lines. The coated printing paper comprises a base paper and a coating layer which is applied to at least one surface of the base paper and contains a pigment and a binder as major components, wherein the base paper comprises a cationic compound, the coating layer contains, as a pigment, 50 parts by mass or more of ground calcium carbonate based on 100 parts by mass of total pigments in the coating layer, and the applied amount of the coating layer is 2.0 g/mto 7.0 g/m, both inclusive, per surface.

A photographic support consisting essentially of base paper and a polyolefin resin with which both sides of the base paper are coated, the base paper having a standard deviation of the weight variation caused by a wire mark formed on the base paper of 1.0 g/m.sup.2 or less and a standard deviation of the weight variation caused by the dispersibility of pulp fiber composing the base paper of 8.0 g/m.sup.2 or less. The photographic support has an excellent smoothness.

Heat sensitive recording paper having such a thickness distribution that the average amplitude of paper thickness variation, between 0.2-mm and 1.0-mm wavelengths of paper thickness variation, does not exceed 0.5 .mu.m and no distinctive variation peak is present in the above wavelength range.
